This past Saturday, our IET Singapore local network came together for a fascinating session with speaker Stefanus, who revealed how engineering precision and scientific principles shape the coffee we enjoy every day.

🔬 From the specialty coffee value chain to the design of brewing tools, participants explored how temperature and pressure control are engineered to achieve consistency and quality. We also uncovered the science behind fermentation and roasting, learning how variables like heat and duration influence flavour outcomes.

During the practical session on Saturday, participants had the chance to try out V60 pour-over brewing. What surprised many was how, even with the same coffee grounds and identical brewing tools, subtle variations in the pour-over pattern could dramatically change the intensity and flavour profile of the coffee.

This hands-on experiment perfectly illustrated how scientific precision and engineering design intersect with the art of brewing — showing that small changes in technique can lead to big differences in outcome. It was a memorable way to connect theory with practice, and to appreciate the science behind every cup.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made this Saturday session so engaging!👉 Stay tuned for more IET events where we bring science and technology to life.

💜💜 Special thanks to our elite IET Singapore team: Er Hao Zhou and Ritz Khoo

It was a great afternoon on 2 April 2026 at Singapore Polytechnic, where we successfully hosted the Learning Journey to Solar Blue-Green Roof & CHINT SP Co-Lab.

The session brought together professionals, students, and industry partners for an engaging and insightful experience focused on sustainable innovation and renewable energy solutions. Participants had the opportunity to explore a live solar blue-green roof installation, gaining firsthand understanding of how integrating greenery with photovoltaic systems can significantly reduce roof temperature and improve energy efficiency.

A key highlight was the demonstration of the 5G AIoT-enabled monitoring system, where real-time data on solar performance, temperature variations, and energy output showcased the tangible benefits of this hybrid solution. The visit to the spaces beneath the installation further reinforced the positive environmental impact.

At the CHINT SP Co-Lab, participants were introduced to advanced electrical equipment and solutions supporting the global transition towards sustainable energy. The hands-on interaction with live switchboard systems added a practical dimension to the learning journey.

Beyond technical knowledge, the event created a valuable platform for networking, knowledge exchange, and meaningful discussions on real-world implementation challenges and opportunities.

A big thank you to all participants, host, and co-organisers who made this session a success. Looking forward to more collaborations and continued learning in advancing sustainable and smart energy solutions.
