FOL Celebrates 20 Years Promoting Reading in Rosarito
“With a Little Help from Our Friends” was the fitting subtitle for a memorable evening celebrating the 20th anniversary of Rosarito Friends of the Library (FOL). The gala brought together community members for a vibrant night featuring live music by The Revolution Band—a tribute to The Beatles—alongside live and silent auctions, excellent food and wine, and, most importantly, the wonderful people who continue to support this meaningful cause.
Carmen Dominguez, President of the nonprofit organization’s Board, expressed her gratitude to every Board Member, past and present, who has contributed to making two decades of reading promotion possible. She gave special recognition to Past President Allan Brown and his wife, Elizabeth Carbajal, for their dedication, initiative, and creativity in developing reading programs that helped the organization grow, reaching thousands of children and their families while fostering a lasting love of books throughout Rosarito.
During her remarks, Dominguez also shared exciting news about the future: the acquisition of a new bus to expand the organization’s Book Mobile program. She explained that the Board had identified a school bus in California, owned by a private school they had for sale, and FOL made an offer to purchase it. In a remarkable turn of events, the bus was generously donated by Ms. Suzy Amis Cameron—environmental activist, author, actress and owner of MUSE Global School.
Upon learning about the impactful work of FOL in Rosarito, Amis Cameron decided to gift the bus outright, a gesture that was met with cheers from more than a hundred attendees at the gala. She is also known for her role in Titanic, directed by her husband, James Cameron, which was filmed in Rosarito. Her contribution represents a powerful example of how meaningful connections can lead to transformative collaborations.
Dominguez concluded her message by thanking sponsors, volunteers, teachers, parents, government officials, and donors for helping turn FOL into a strong organization, ready to continue its mission for the next 20 years.
The celebration continued with an energetic live auction and a lively dance floor, as guests enjoyed the timeless music of The Beatles performed by The Revolution Band—closing the night on a high note of community, generosity, and shared purpose.
