The British Society Mexico

The British Society Mexico Becoming accustomed to the culture, familiar with the area and comfortable with meeting new people can be difficult and not a little intimidating!

Established 1828, The Society aims to unite the British Community in Mexico, promote British businesses, share our iconic culture and traditions through fundraising events, safeguard British heritage in Mexico and give back to our hosts via charity. Mexico’s oldest and most diverse English-speaking network

Whether you have just moved to the Mexico or have even been here for some time, it can some

times be hard to re-start your life in a new or unfamiliar country. That is where membership of the British Society can help—by providing a forum for you to meet other people in the same situation, thus enabling you to get more out of your life in Mexico and helping you settle into your new environment. We also look to build on the strong cultural ties and the shared heritage of Mexico and Britain. The British Society encourages membership of Mexican nationals who have an interest in British society and who are keen to strengthen the cultural bonds between Britain and Mexico. The Society offers a program of social and educational activities and welcomes all English speakers to its extensive range of events. We aim to build up and facilitate a range of enjoyable events and activities, such as restaurant, pub, dance and film nights, bridge, Spanish conversation and play reading. Apart from these, there are several one-off events that are run throughout the year such as, the annual Gala Ball, Mexico’s exclusive Guy Fawkes Night, St Andrew's Ball and a St. Georges Day dinner. We aim to have something to offer to all ages and all tastes and we welcome members of any age. So, whatever your age, nationality or interests, The British Society aims to offer “something for everyone”. The British Society is a pro-active and multi-cultural organisation which is run by its members for its members. The committee and key contacts are all volunteers and are always looking for “new blood” anybody can be on the committee, just as long as they are a member of the Society. This can be a great way to get yourself involved in the Mexican way of life and meet like-minded individuals, whilst giving something back to the new community that you are living in. Whether you want to get involved in organising one of the more regular activities or you have your own idea for a new addition to the events calendar, the committee is always there to give advice and support—you can involve yourself as little or as much as you like and will be a welcome addition to the existing team. If you’d like to get involved please get in touch through [email protected]

🇲🇽⚽ A massive congratulations to Mexico on a fantastic start to the World Cup with a 2-0 victory over South Africa! 🇲🇽⚽

🫂We were thrilled to see Raúl Jiménez on the scoresheet as the Mexican striker has become a familiar face to football fans in the UK after playing for Fulham and Wolves in the English Premier League for a number of years!

⚽His goal at the Estadio Azteca was a wonderful moment for the home crowd, and we couldn't be happier for our adopted nation as they begin their World Cup campaign!

🏆From all of us at The British Society in Mexico, we wish El Tri, and the incredible fans, every success for the rest of the tournament.

🇬🇧Today marks the 82nd anniversary of D Day, a turning point in the Second World War and to this day one of the most significant military operations in history.

🪖It serves as an wonderful opportunity to remember the courage, sacrifice, and determination of the Allied forces who landed on the beaches of Normandy on 6 June 1944 and to honour all those who served, fought, and gave their lives in the cause of freedom.

Lest we forget

Tributes are under way to mark the largest military seaborne operation ever attempted.

🇬🇧🇲🇽💗 One of the questions we are often asked is how The British Society gives back to the community in Mexico. Events and sharing our culture are a fun part of what we do, but our DONATIONS scheme is one of our fundamental pillars and top priorities

We are delighted to share that, thanks to the support of our members, The British Society recently made a donation of $50,000 MXN to FUCAM (Fundación de Cáncer de Mama), one of Mexico's leading breast cancer charities.

🩷 We have just received a letter from FUCAM explaining how this donation will be used. The funds will help purchase a physiotherapy treatment table and support free physiotherapy consultations for women undergoing breast cancer treatment.

Breast cancer remains a significant public health challenge in Mexico, and indeed the world, and access to treatment and rehabilitation can make an enormous difference to patients and their families.

This donation is only possible because of the generosity of our members who pay their fees every year. Every membership paid contributes to projects like this. So thank you to our paying members for helping us make a positive impact beyond our own community. 🇬🇧🇲🇽

We are proud to be supporting these women in their moments of need ❤️
