From colorful picture books for little ones just learning their first words to chapter books for growing readers, young adult novels, and books for adults—there is a reader on Isla Mujeres waiting for that next great story!

And you don't have to be on the island to help!

New or gently used books are welcome!

Sometimes the most meaningful thank-you messages come after a family has made it through a difficult moment.

When someone is facing surgery, there is already so much to think about—the procedure itself, recovery, and the uncertainty that comes with medical treatment. Adding financial worries can make an already stressful situation even harder.

LOMI was pleased to contribute $5,000 pesos toward this individual's surgery on October 8th, helping ease some of that financial burden.

And now we've received the news we were hoping for—the surgery is over! ❤️

We know our contribution was only one part of the support this individual received, but we're grateful that our donors made it possible for LOMI to play a role.

This is exactly why our crisis intervention work matters. When an unexpected medical expense arises, sometimes a helping hand at the right moment can make a tremendous difference.

Cuando la temporada baja se prolonga, ¡la amabilidad importa más que nunca! 💙

Para muchas familias de Isla Mujeres, los desafíos de la temporada baja turística son cada vez más difíciles. Lo que tradicionalmente es una desaceleración temporal se ha convertido en un periodo prolongado de incertidumbre, dejando a muchas familias trabajadoras luchando por encontrar empleo y cubrir incluso las necesidades más básicas de sus hogares.

Aunque haya menos turistas, la necesidad de ayuda sigue creciendo.

Esta semana, gracias a la maravillosa generosidad de Café 42, Laurette A. y Maggie W., LOMI pudo realizar entregas de alimentos muy necesarios a 12 familias de la isla. Sus valiosas contribuciones ayudaron a llenar nuestras cajas de despensa y, lo que es más importante, ayudaron a aliviar las preocupaciones diarias de padres que intentan poner comida en la mesa.

Por supuesto, ¡los alimentos no se empacan solos y las cajas no llegan mágicamente a la puerta de nadie!

Un agradecimiento muy especial a Carmen S. y Lisa G., quienes generosamente dedicaron su tiempo y energía a ayudar a preparar, empacar, organizar y entregar estas cajas de alimentos. Desde el primer artículo empacado hasta la entrega en la puerta, sus manos dispuestas y sus corazones solidarios hicieron posible este esfuerzo.

❤️ Detrás de cada caja de alimentos hay una historia. Una madre estirando sus últimos pesos, un padre buscando trabajo, abuelos cuidando a sus nietos o una familia simplemente tratando de salir adelante una semana más.

💙 When the Low Season Lingers, Kindness Matters More Than Ever! 💙
For many families on Isla Mujeres, the challenges of the low tourist season are becoming increasingly difficult. What is traditionally a temporary slowdown has stretched into an extended period of uncertainty, leaving many hardworking families struggling to find employment and provide even the most basic necessities for their households.

While the tourists may be fewer, the need for assistance continues to grow.

This week, thanks to the wonderful generosity of Café 42, Laurette A. and Maggie W., LOMI was able to provide much-needed food deliveries to 12 island families. Their thoughtful contributions helped fill our food boxes and, more importantly, helped ease the daily worries of parents trying to put meals on their tables.

Of course, groceries don't pack themselves, and boxes don't magically arrive at someone's doorstep!

A very special thank you to Carmen S. and Lisa G., who generously gave their time and energy to help prepare, pack, organize, and deliver these food boxes. From the first item packed to the door step, your helping hands and caring hearts made this effort possible.

❤️ Behind every food box is a story. A mother stretching her last pesos, a father searching for work, grandparents caring for grandchildren, or a family simply trying to make it through another week.

As this unusually extended low season continues, LOMI remains committed to standing beside our families in crisis. Our food dispensaries are not simply about providing groceries. They are about offering a little breathing room, restoring hope, and reminding our neighbors that they have not been forgotten.

There is something wonderfully simple about this message. No long explanation—just thank you from the heart. But imagine what happens after a LOMI food dispensary is delivered.

The groceries are unpacked. Food goes into the refrigerator and onto the shelves. A family sits down together—and for several days, there is food on the table.

Two Words That Explain So Much: “Slow Season” For visitors, slow season may simply mean fewer people on the beaches, shorter restaurant waits, and a quieter Isla.

For many Isleño families, it means something very different. It can mean fewer work hours, temporary layoffs, smaller paychecks, and difficult decisions about how to stretch what little income is coming into the household. For some families, putting enough food on the table becomes a daily concern.

A LOMI food dispensary doesn't change the season or replace someone's income. What it can do is help bridge the gap until tourism—and the jobs that depend upon it—begin to return.
Every donor who provides a food dispensary becomes part of that bridge. 🤝

🛒❤️ Sometimes the Relief Comes Before the Food Arrives! This message was sent to LOMI before the food dispensary was even delivered—and that makes these few words especially meaningful.

Sometimes simply knowing that help is on the way brings relief. That is something our donors make possible.

When a family reaches out because there isn't enough food in the home, there can be uncertainty and worry about the days ahead. Being able to tell that family, “Yes, we can help,” can change how that day feels—even before the groceries arrive.

Your donations allow LOMI to respond to a request with more than sympathy. They allow us to respond with a plan, purchase the food, and put that help directly into the hands of a family who needs it.

Of course, Lean On Me, through the support of donors, provides food. But sometimes we provide something equally important: a little peace of mind. That's the beautiful connection our donors create.

For a family experiencing food insecurity, opening the door to a LOMI food delivery can mean knowing there will be meals for the next several days. It can mean stretching limited income a little further. It can mean one less worry during an already difficult time.

The message above arrived after one of our Sunday food dispensary deliveries. It's short and simple—but behind those few words is a family whose day became a little easier because someone they may never meet chose to care.

A bag of groceries eventually becomes an empty bag, but the feeling that someone cared lasts much longer. Thank you for helping us continue to make those deliveries.
