En los últimos meses —y especialmente en este momento— se ha vuelto aún más evidente lo delicado y crítico que es el uso de imágenes de niñas y niños en internet. Fotografías que nacen desde una buena intención pueden perder su contexto, ser compartidas sin control, almacenadas o incluso utilizadas de forma indebida, sin que las familias o los propios niños lo sepan.

Las niñas y los niños no pueden decidir dónde terminan sus imágenes, quién las ve ni cómo pueden ser usadas en el futuro. Lo que hoy parece un recuerdo bonito puede convertirse más adelante en un problema. Internet no olvida.

Almar Surf & Skate is a beautiful example of how supporting local kids can change lives. Through recreational activities we offer children a safe space to grow, build confidence, stay active, and feel part of a community. Supporting kids is essential — they are the future, and giving them positive outlets, role models, and opportunities helps shape stronger, healthier communities.

But just as important as supporting our youth is remembering our elderly locals, many of whom have spent their lives giving to their families and community and are now living in vulnerable situations.

That’s where Casa De La Paz comes in. Casa De La Paz has existed for about four years and is dedicated to supporting elderly people in need here in Bucerías. One of the things they do is provide groceries to seniors and families who are struggling.

Last Saturday, I had the opportunity to join them during a grocery distribution, thanks to my friend Susan — who is also selling raffle tickets in support of this cause!

During that experience, I met families and seniors living in very difficult circumstances. What stayed with me most was not just the need, but the love — the love they give, the gratitude they show, and the positive energy you receive just by spending time with them. I left feeling deeply moved and incredibly grateful.

Sometimes it’s not even about the groceries. Often, what they need most is someone to listen — someone to hear their life stories, their worries, their feelings. It can be hard to listen, to witness their struggles, and then have to leave right away. But those moments matter.

I truly believe in the Casa De La Paz project and their long-term vision of building a senior residence, a safe and dignified place where elderly people can live with care, respect, and companionship. To make that dream a reality, they need our help. Supporting Casa De La Paz means supporting dignity, connection, and love — at every stage of life.

Hoy por fin es el sorteo del raffle, y quiero dar un gran agradecimiento a todos los que compraron un ticket y apoyaron mi proyecto. ¡Qué regalo de Navidad! 🎄

Para ser honesta, el raffle fue más agotador y tomó más tiempo de lo que esperaba. Nuestro proyecto empezó este año, así que todo todavía es nuevo para mí, y estoy aprendiendo y creciendo en mi rol paso a paso.

Muchos de ustedes me han apoyado desde el principio y han sido parte de este viaje, y estoy realmente agradecida por eso. También quiero dar un agradecimiento especial a Krista, que trabaja en fundraising y me dio muy buenos consejos sobre cómo organizar el raffle.

No todos los premios son donados; parte del dinero de los tickets ayuda a cubrir costos y apoyar productos y servicios locales. Más adelante contaré más sobre esto.

Primero, comenzaré con un mini raffle para todos los que compartieron el raffle en su historia. Ahora tienen la oportunidad de ganar un ticket extra.

Our raffle is still running, and for anyone who buys 5 tickets, we’re offering a free surprise gift from the Mereketengue shop.

The raffle doesn’t work so well at the moment but my friend Courtney asked me today how the event went. I told her I really loved it—mostly because I had two amazing teachers by my side, and I could genuinely feel that the kids were at peace, having fun, and enjoying a space where they could fully be themselves.

There was one child who fell pretty hard, but because my friend JJ—who usually teaches the art class—was there, I knew he would handle the situation with care. That trust let me stay focused on the rest of the group.

By the end, the kids wouldn’t stop asking if we were coming back and when we’d continue. Would it be another art class? More yoga?

I truly believe the yoga with Nydia helped them reconnect with themselves, stay present, and practice balance and discipline—a perfect warm-up before the skate lesson. It all came together beautifully. A really powerful combination.

At the moment, we are facing structural limitations that affect the quality and consistency of our activities, and this raffle will help us overcome them.

🌞 Fair compensation and training for instructors
Many instructors work unpaid or only occasionally, which affects program stability. The funds will allow us to offer fair payments, training, and consistent schedules, creating a safe and professional learning environment.

🌞 Safety gear for skate sessions
We need helmets, knee pads, elbow pads, and replacements for worn-out equipment. Proper gear allows more children to participate with confidence and safety.

🌞 Materials for art activities and environmental actions
We want to support volunteers like our art teacher by providing materials such as colors, paint, paper, brushes, and more.
We also organize beach and town clean-ups (with ), for which we need bags, gloves, and logistical materials.

🌞 Organization of regular surf events
We aim to restart our beach days with more frequent activities, giving children the opportunity to connect with nature, learn new skills, and live positive experiences.

🌞 Transportation, food, and logistics
We don’t have our own vehicle and depend on volunteers. The funds will cover transportation for children and equipment, water, snacks, and logistical needs to ensure safe and well-organized events.
