Los espacios públicos abiertos son fundamentales para la salud y adecuado desarrollo de los niños. ¿Cuál es la relevancia que se les da a los parques y áreas de juego en la planeación de las ciudades? 🌳
Access to safe, inclusive, and accessible public spaces is fundamental to children’s health, well-being, and development. However, as urbanization accelerates, children’s access to quality public spaces is diminishing — particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
To support local and national governments, practitioners, and partners, UN-Habitat, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF, has developed the Guide to Creating Urban Public Spaces for Children.
The Guide provides practical, evidence-based recommendations for planning, designing, and managing child-responsive public spaces across:
• Planned urban contexts
• Informal settlements
• Crisis and resilience settings
It reinforces the importance of integrating children’s rights into urban policy and practice, contributing to healthier, more inclusive and sustainable cities for all.
The relevance of this work has recently been highlighted in international media, including a BBC feature showcasing one of the case studies from the report.
