Hoy queremos compartirles un pedacito muy especial de AKUMAL NATURA RESCUE: un centro de rescate donde trabajamos para dar refugio, cuidado y una segunda oportunidad a animales que lo necesitan.

Actualmente tenemos como huésped a un visitante encantador: un kinkajú simpático, dócil y súper curioso. Le gusta observar, explorar y, sobre todo… ¡recibir visitas! Su carácter tranquilo hace que conocerlo sea una experiencia muy bonita para quienes aman la naturaleza y quieren aprender más sobre la fauna.

En AKUMAL NATURA RESCUE creemos que cada animal tiene una historia y merece ser tratado con respeto. Gracias por apoyar este tipo de espacios que promueven el cuidado, la protección y la educación ambiental.

Today we announce the birth of a baby collared peccary. His family, "Amigos", and all the animals in the nearby jungle are happy with his arrival, and our human team joins in this great joy.

We invite you to come meet him and live an unforgettable four-hour experience in the Mayan jungle. Don't forget to bring your swimsuit to enjoy our cenote! 💧🌳

We're so lucky to welcome a new pair of adorable cubs—a playful boy and a sweet girl. Right now, our top priority is keeping the mother and her little ones safe. Sometimes, the smell of mother's milk can attract big cats!
She is gently nursing both of them at this moment.

Early this morning, we welcomed two beautiful white-tailed deer fawns! We will soon find out if they are male or female. Their happy mother is recovering well and bonding with them, while the proud father stands by to protect them. Both parents come from different bloodlines, which allowed us to prevent inbreeding and ensure the fawns are healthy.

Did you know that the incredible stingless Melipona bees band together and even sacrifice themselves to protect the colony?

During this season, you might see a swarm of army ants: enormous lines of black "legionary" ants, up to half a meter wide and hundreds of meters long, that advance through the jungle in search of food and relocate their camp and breeding grounds.

The video shows how the bees block the hive entrance and, from inside, use propolis and other materials to form a protective wall.

Both species are key to biodiversity and normally coexist peacefully and without problems; these invasions only occur at specific times. Our mission is to help the bees by isolating access to the hives to prevent the ants from entering.

RIP PIRATA
Yesterday, May 1st, Children's Day, our beloved friend and life companion, “Pirata”—a scarlet macaw—passed away.
He was one-eyed, loud, and jealous of his partner, "Penelope," but also sober, noble, and kind, like all good pirates. He passed away due to his advanced age.

His partner and his jungle animal friends, already accustomed to his shouts and joy, will miss him dearly. While some observe the silence of mourning, others feel the sadness of his absence.

Now, Pirate sings his joys as he sails through the heaven of kind animals.

Join us for a 3.5-hour adventure to discover wildlife and interact with rescued animals at Akumal Natura Rescue.

Schedule (2 shifts):
- 10:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
- 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Details:
- Minimal walking; suitable for all ages (keeping the heat in mind).
- Meeting point: Akumal Natura Glamping (easy to find via GPS).
From there, we’ll drive in our vehicle about 20 minutes to the facilities.
- Introduction to our mission and the animals; interaction with some of them if conditions allow.
- Visit to the stingless bees area, honey tasting (available for purchase), and an explanation of their importance.
- After about 1 hour with the animals, we’ll go for a swim in a beautiful **underground cenote**.

What to bring: swimsuit and biodegradable mosquito repellent.

Cost: 900 MXN per person (US$45).
Kids under 2 are free; ages 2 to 6 pay half price.
