On Friday 11th September 2026, our Hub Leader , was privileged to attend the Discussion that the First lady of the Republic of Malawi had with about 400 students from different universities in the Southern region on issues to do with the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). The event was hosted by Organization of African Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) engagement under the theme, ‘Engage, Empower and Invest in Youth SRHR, Shape a Sustainable Future.’

The engagement provided a meaningful
platform for discussions on youth sexual and reproductive health and rights. The First Lady also encouraged young girls to delay sexual activity, prioritise their education and personal development, and protect their future by making informed and responsible choices.

On 4th August 2026, the new Hub Leaders had the privilege of coming together at the ActionAid Head Office for an insightful orientation session. The session focused on key areas such as the budgeting process, report writing and the requisition process, equipping leaders with the necessary skills to effectively manage and strengthen their hubs.

Beyond the learning, the gathering provided a valuable opportunity for the Hub Leaders to interact, share experiences and get to know one another better, fostering collaboration, teamwork and a stronger network among the leaders.

From 20th to 21st July, our Hub Leader Jumbe Donalisa Faith participated in a transformative workshop focused on Valuing Women's Work (VWW) and the Feminist Wellbeing Economy. The workshop provided valuable insights into promoting economic justice and wellbeing, with a strong emphasis on identifying practical ways to support and empower young urban women.

Participants also explored the important connection between economic justice and climate justice, highlighting agroecology as a sustainable approach to strengthening livelihoods while protecting the environment. The workshop concluded with collaborative planning for Phase 3 activities, setting clear priorities and strategies to advance our shared mission of promoting gender equality, women's economic empowerment, and sustainable development.

We are excited to put these lessons into action and continue creating meaningful change in our communities.

On December 18, 2025, a focus group at Likangala evacuation center, involving UNIMA FEMICONOMIS HUB, Councillor Monile Bakali, community leaders, and women, discussed Gender-Based Violence (GBV). We defined GBV as harmful acts based on gender including physical, sexual, and digital abuse and noted its contextual nature. While GBV disproportionately affects women and girls, the discussion highlighted how socialization silences men, making them reluctant to report due to stigma. To combat GBV, the group emphasized reporting to authorities, community leaders, and police, alongside advocating for stricter government policies, targeted awareness for men, and challenging harmful social norms to address all forms of GBV, regardless of the genders involved.
