LET US RISE TOGETHER FOR BLESSINGS CHALEMERA

Comardes,

This morning I am here again on the need for us to save our brother Blessings Chalemera who needs medical attention outside Malawi.

Together, we can do it. With love, we can bring our funds together and he can be well again. Blessings has been a devoted member of Let Love Lead ❤️, a student led charity organisation that I founded during my undergraduate studies at the University of Malawi. I have worked with this young man and I appreciate how passionate he is when it comes to the welfare of others. Today, Blessings is in need, I humbly ask you all to give back love. You can contribute as small as 1,000 Kwacha and it will make a difference 🙏

Together, we can. Thank you for your positive thoughts.

Let love lead ❤️

Thanks Elia.

FINAL UPDATE SO FAR:

Finally, we got it done. Thanks to everyone who contributed. We from Let Love Lead are very grateful. Tomorrow, our friend will be back in the UNIMA corridors.

Our target was K100,000, and a total of K129,000 has been collected, exceeding the target.

Special thanks to a certain lady whose name we are keeping anonymous, as she has offered to cater for his rent for the coming six months. You see what love can do.

At this point, we are closing this contribution. Once again, thank you 👏

Kind regards,

Good morning, UNIMA family.

As you are busy preparing to return to those beautiful corridors, there is a fellow friend among us who has lost hope of coming back. This is not by choice, but because he is financially stranded.

Some of us, after making our budgets wherever we are, may remain with a small amount of extra money. It may seem little to you, but that small contribution can help bring our friend back to join us. At UNIMA, our welfare is built by ourselves, and we can do this again as we always do.

Please contribute the little you can to:

1. Airtel: 0984435922
2. TNM: 0882873851
(Both numbers in the name of Ishmael Pillow)

Or you can contribute directly to him via:

CALL FOR HELP

[ Please share with others if you can 🙏]
Her name is Mercy Towera Mwanja. She is 17 years old. She is a third born in a family of 4, girls only. She stays with her single mother and siblings . She comes from Ntokota Village, Traditional Authority Mwambo in Zomba. She was at Masongola Secondary School where she passed her MSCE with 16 points. She has been selected to study Social Work at the University of Malawi in Zomba. Her secondary school was sponsored by a certain organisation that stops it's funding once one finishes MSCE.

Last week the University of Malawi released the opening dates for the 2025-2026 academic year. First year students are supposed to report on 25th August for orientation. Mercy's mother is stranded. Despite having applied for a government loan through the Higher Education Students Loans and Grants Board, Ms. Modester Nkhoma has no idea where she can get a rental fee for the child, Laptop, blankets, groceries, phone and other necessities.

Due to the family's humble background, the mother suggested that the child should reserve her place and join when they have the ability to. Her suggestion is that alime Nandolo, agulitse, chaka cha mawa apeze podzayambira. Mercy's friend from the same village who is currently at UNIMA, contacted the Secretary General from Let Love Lead Ms. Memory Sululu asking her if we can intervene. The GS contacted me and today, 10/08/2025 we made it possible to visit the remote area. We were so touched to note that the only available resources in readiness for school are Maize flour approximately 15 kgs, a worn out sack bag [ see the picture below], one duvet which is also in back condition and Nandolo for relish. No smartphone, no laptop, no shoes, no proper clothes and no groceries, just her with the admission letter. 😔

Fellow Malawians reading this, in case you know someone who may help or you may intervene, kindly let them come forward and help build this girl's future. She is the first one in the family to make it to university. The family is in poverty, this I can confirm. She needs our help so that she goes to school come 25th August.

Incase you might be interested to follow up, kindly contact any of these contacts:

FROM THE STREETS TO UNIMA

Greetings. I will try to be brief though it's a very long story.

Today, 09th July 2025 a boy came at our offices at Police College, Zomba. His name is Patrick Odala [ not real name]. He is 19. He came to Zomba to write supplementary exams (Physics and Chemistry). He is in first year doing Bsc Food and Nutrition. His home is Lilongwe Depot. When he searched for piece works and wasn't successful, some police officers directed him to me.

He grew up in the streets . He went to Lilongwe LEA, Dwasulu CDSS and Nkhotakota Secondary where he got 14 points and got his way to UNIMA. He is among the 12 children that his father has. His mother left him when he was three and went to Mozambique and they have never seen each other.

He was taken to Lilongwe Rehabilitation Centre under the ministry of Gender by Police Officers. He got his primary help from that side. He can't trace his father and the only home he has is Lilongwe bus depot. He grew up there and that's what he calls home. Thanks to all those who have been helping him, Loans Board and some other lady. Despite that he benefits from Loans Board ( tuition) the boy is homeless and needs our help.

He wish he had
✓ his own place to sleep in areas 36
✓ had enough capital to be selling kaunjika and water in the depot
✓ a phone
✓ transport to get back to Lilongwe Bus Depot after the exam on Friday this week.

For fear of others thinking like I am exaggerating, I went on a live broadcast on my page where the whole conversation can be accessed through https://www.facebook.com/share/v/19KPYjspKs/ and https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1C8Vwn7xzf/

Anyone willing to take part in shaping this boy's future please contact me on 0996819517.

Thank you 🙏

CALL FOR HELP

I will try to be brief. A week ago, I received a complaint from a third year student who withdrew last year. For the sake of how sensitive some of the information I am about to share, let us call him Hope [ not real name].

He withdrew on financial grounds. He is doing Theology, third year. While at his home in Mangochi, his mother's house was set ablaze on allegations that mayake amamanga mvula. Everything got burnt including his clothes [ see shot attached].

Fast forward, this semester he was supposed to report to school and his mother sold a piece of land for his tuition. [ He missed the Loan Application.]

I shared the story and a certain very generous female Lecturer from the Sociology department called me yesterday that I should go to her office with the guy and I did today afternoon. The Lecturer provided him with some groceries and 60,000 Kwacha for his rentals. The Landlord had taken the bed away on demand that amupatsa akapereka rent which he didn't pay for two months. Upon my interaction with him, he told me he had no clothes, no laptop and no phone, he is always at the resource department. I went to where he stays, I was so broken to see where he sleeps [ see picture attached] he couldn't manage a better room in Chikanda where most of them are at 45 and above.

Hope has three trousers, magwaladi one pair as you can see in the picture. Amavala size 8 nsapato and his trousers atha kuvala size 34. Folks, despite that the Lecturer has started assisting, I am appealing to anyone who may further intervene in his situation makamaka phone and pc plus food. I had advised him to write the SRC President and the DoSA on the same so that if there is help, they should remember him.

I believe with love we can re-write his story. I am available on 0996819517/0882024002

URGENT CALL FOR HELP

Good afternoon UNIMA students family. It's a long story but I will be brief. Well, I have just finished talking to Patience Chimulu, a BedMat final year student who withdrew last year in her first semester on health grounds. And that the information I am about to communicate is a true reflection of her wish and she gave consent. I may not go so deep into specifics of some of her problems because I think they are too sensitive 😔

✓ She has been sick for some time and she collapsed at school some day.
✓ the condition worsened and she was supposed to be operated in one of her breasts.
✓ things happened so fast that she had her legs affected and couldn't walk.
✓ she's been in and out of the hospital now and again.
✓ there was a time I asked for blood donation to her chifukwa magazi amatha pafupi pafupi. I was working with my brother Patrick Mkwapatira who happens to be her friend and well.
✓ she is in hospital again as I speak and she was supposed to be operated. She developed some wounds and amayenela apange zoti such wounds must be covered with flesh from other part of the body.
✓ there are some two female Teachers from Police Secondary School ( I won't mention their identities) who have been there for her ever since and I think it's time we must intervene.
