Community Highlight Community Highlight is a CBO based in Domasi, Malawi. Community Highlight is a Malawian CBO, founded in May 2015. UK Manager - Evie Dickinson

Community Highlight is based in Domasi, Malawi and operates in two main villages: Nsangeni and Chinyangala. Our main focus is education - we run four village schools that are attended by over 200 children aged 3 and above. Alongside this, we run a school feeding programme and various awareness events on topics that are chosen by our community members - often concerning health, sanitation and disea

se. Since the start of 2017 we have launched a Village Development Act and started further projects including a youth club and a tailoring school. We are unique in the fact that all of our project ideas come directly from community members themselves - we arrange meetings regularly with the people living in our district and find out what they really need assistance with and the resources that need to be provided. Through this mentality and process we can be sure that donations are going exactly where they are needed most and that we are promoting empowerment and self-sufficiency. In Domasi, we're seeing more young people affected by child abuse, early marriage, teenage pregnancy and substance misuse. As a community, we want to do something about it.

This year, alongside our School Closing Day celebrations, we're bringing everyone together for a community awareness event to start important conversations and help protect the next generation 👊

This year we're hoping to combine two important Community Highlight events into one day.

In the morning, our children will share everything they've learned over the past year with their families and teachers. In the afternoon, we'll host a community awareness event focused on child protection and the issues affecting young people in Domasi 📣

Combining the events means we can reach more people while keeping costs down. We're looking to raise £350 to make it happen.

Our school in Chimwaza, Domasi was badly damaged in recent floods which affected 300,000+ people across Malawi. The children are currently on their Easter break, but right now the school is unsafe for them to return to.

🧱 We’re working to get it repaired in time for when they return on the 27th and we're nearly there - just £200 to go.
