UNIMA YOUTHMAPPERS TREE PLANTING EXERCISE AT CHAWE
It is an honor to share with you our experience on yesterday's event (25 March, 2025). Our reflection on the incredible experience we had yesterday during our tree-planting exercise at Chawe, Zomba Mountain. As Unima YouthMappers, we embarked on this initiative with the goal of contributing to environmental conservation while also leveraging technology to enhance data-driven decision-making.
Our day started with great enthusiasm as we made our way up the mountain, armed with tree seedlings, determination, and a shared vision for a greener future. Planting trees is not just about putting a seedling into the ground; it is about restoring ecosystems, combating deforestation, and securing a sustainable future for generations to come. Each tree we planted stands as a testament to our commitment to preserving nature and fighting against environmental degradation.
But we didn’t stop at tree planting—we also integrated data collection into our activity using KoboToolbox. This allowed us to systematically record important details such as the number of trees planted, their locations, and environmental conditions. By using digital mapping tools, we are not only taking action but also ensuring that our efforts are documented and can be monitored for impact and currently we are working on data to make it useful through map production. This fusion of environmental conservation and technology is what makes us unique as YouthMappers, and it is a model that can be replicated across different communities.
To all our fellow YouthMappers in various chapters, I want to remind you that the work we do matters. Every map we create, every tree we plant, and every piece of data we collect contributes to real change. Let us continue to use our skills and passion to tackle pressing global challenges, from climate change to disaster preparedness.
Remember, change does not happen overnight, but with consistency.
