🌍 Day 1 Highlights | ICFP 2025 Youth Summit! 🌍

Yesterday was the official opening of the ICFP 2025 Youth Summit at the Hilton Corferias Hotel in Bogotá, Colombia — where over 400 young advocates, program implementers, researchers, and trailblazers have come together to share experiences, ideas, and innovations shaping the future of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). ✨

CEPARAM is proud to be part of this incredible gathering, represented by Ms. Kettie Mikwala — joining passionate young leaders from across the globe to amplify the voices of youth and strengthen the bridge between evidence and action.

At CEPARAM, we believe that lasting impact in SRHR comes from listening, learning, and co-creating solutions with young people. Through our work in Malawi — including our flagship LIU LATHU Project — we’ve seen how participatory approaches like Photovoice can turn data into powerful narratives that drive policy change and community transformation.

During the Youth Summit, we look forward to:
💡 Sharing lessons from our experiences working with adolescents and young women in Malawi.
🤝 Learning from fellow youth advocates and organizations on innovative ways to promote access to SRHR services.
📢 Exploring how storytelling and lived experiences can shape inclusive and youth-responsive policies.

Because in every story told, every challenge shared, and every idea exchanged — we move closer to a world where every young person’s voice counts.

✨ It’s time we listen more.

Happy International Youth Day! 🎉

As we commemorate this year’s Youth Day, CEPARAM is proud to celebrate a remarkable achievement by our Head of Programs, Miss Kettie Mikwala, who has been honored with the Early Career Award to attend this year’s International Conference on Family Planning (ICFP) in Bogotá, Colombia.

Miss Mikwala will be representing the Centre for Education Promotion and Advancement of the Rights of Adolescent Mothers (CEPARAM) and showcasing our work in three categories oral, poster, and panel presentations across two critical areas of research and programming:

1️⃣ Surviving the Storm: Access and Utilization of Sexual and Reproductive Health Services During Cyclones in Malawi – This study examines the resilience and barriers faced by women and girls in the Lake Chilwa Basin, Zomba District, in accessing essential SRHR services during climate-related emergencies. It underscores the urgent need for inclusive, youth- and women-centered crisis response strategies.

2️⃣ LIU LATHU (Our Voice): Centering Pregnant and Parenting Adolescent Girls and Young Women in Malawi Through Pleasure-Positive Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) and Storytelling for Impact – This initiative amplifies the voices and lived experiences of adolescent mothers by combining pleasure-positive, rights-based CSE with storytelling as a powerful tool for empowerment, advocacy, and social change.

We are incredibly proud of Miss Mikwala’s dedication and leadership, and we look forward to seeing CEPARAM’s work shine on the global stage. 🌍💪

Let’s Begin This Week by Celebrating Breastfeeding Week.
As the world commemorates the importance of breastfeeding, CEPARAM stands in solidarity—recognizing its vital role in nurturing healthy beginnings. We encourage all adolescent mothers to embrace and practice breastfeeding, knowing it is a powerful step toward a healthier future for both mother and child.

There are so many untold stories , stories carried in silence by adolescent others in our communities.

The real question is:
Do we give them space to speak?
Do we listen when they do?

These are not just stories. They are lived realities of gender-based violence, sexual harassment, and the violation of rights that too often go unheard.

But not anymore.

CEPARAM is proud to introduce LIU LATHU a powerful storybook that gives voice to the voiceless. In its pages, adolescent mothers bravely share their truths, their pain, and their strength.

Because their stories matter.
Because every voice deserves to be heard.
Because Liu Lathu—this is our voice.
