Empowering Church Leaders to Better Support Young People in Salima

As part of the Salima Integrated Youth Protection and Empowerment Project, Kindle Orphan Outreach successfully conducted a Five-day Psychosocial Support Training for local church leaders and four Kindle staff members.

The training is part of our commitment to addressing the growing challenges affecting young people in rural Salima, including drug and substance abuse, early marriages, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and youth idleness. By equipping trusted community leaders with practical psychosocial support skills, we are strengthening the support systems that young people can rely on while also promoting economic empowerment through vocational skills development.

The training was officially opened by our Executive Director, Mr. Joseph Kandiyesa, who emphasized the important role that churches play in nurturing and protecting young people within their communities.

On the final day, the training was officially closed by the Director of Salima Community and Social Services, Mrs. Loveness Nkunika Silungwe, who commended Kindle Orphan Outreach for investing in church leaders. She noted that pastors are among the most trusted leaders in the community, and empowering them with psychosocial support skills will enable them to make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable young people and families.

The training was facilitated by the dedicated team from the Social Welfare Department of Salima District Council, whose expertise and commitment made the sessions practical, engaging, and impactful.

Speaking on behalf of the participating church leaders, a representative from the Umodzi Church Leaders expressed heartfelt appreciation to Kindle Orphan Outreach for organizing the training. He shared that the sessions had broadened their understanding of how they can support not only the youth in their churches but also families and the wider community. He further appealed for more trainings of this nature to ensure that church leaders continue to grow in their capacity to respond to today's social challenges.

At Kindle Orphan Outreach, we believe that lasting change begins by empowering the people who are closest to the community. Together, we are building safer, healthier, and more resilient communities where every young person has the opportunity to thrive.

Today we celebrate a powerful story of hope, resilience, and purpose. 🎓✨
Congratulations to Chisomo Kambwiri (26) on graduating with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Physiotherapy from Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (formerly Malawi College of Medicine)!

Chisomo’s journey is nothing short of inspiring. Born and raised in a community where university education felt out of reach, he had no role models to follow—only a dream, persistence, and determination. Raised by hardworking parents who did everything they could, his path was never easy, but he refused to give up.

His story began to change when he joined the Kindle Youth Groups during his primary school years—an experience that helped shape his vision and character. Later, after being selected to Salima Secondary School, he was awarded a scholarship by Kindle Orphan Outreach, which supported him through to his Form 4.

When he earned his place at university, Kindle continued to stand with him—covering his tuition and upkeep—allowing him to fully pursue his calling.
Today, that dream has become reality.

Chisomo, your journey is a reminder that where you come from does not define where you can go. You are now a beacon of hope to many young people who dare to dream beyond their circumstances.
The future is brighter because of you. 🌍💙
