Today, Girls Evolve proudly selected and met its 3rd cohort of 30 inspiring women from Chozoli, Kahera and Buwira in Rumphi District for the Sustainable Women Economic Empowerment in Agribusiness (SWEA) Project.

This new cohort marks another milestone in our commitment to empowering rural women with practical tools to build stronger, more resilient livelihoods. Through the SWEA project, the women will receive piglets, business and financial literacy training, and continuous mentorship to help them establish sustainable livestock enterprises.

By providing both resources and knowledge, the project aims to strengthen women’s economic independence, improve household food security, and reduce poverty at community level. SWEA project is helping them transition from limited economic opportunities to viable and profitable agribusiness ventures.

We are excited to see the impact these 30 women will create as they grow their businesses, uplift their families and contribute to more resilient communities.

Yesterday, Girls Evolve joined hundreds of women, girls and allies in Lilongwe for the Big Walk to End Gender-Based Violence, hosted by Women for Change Malawi.
From Bingu International Stadium to the Civic Offices, we marched with one voice: violence against women and girls must end.

Malawi has recorded over 17,000 GBV cases in just the first nine months of 2025 😲 a shocking reminder that GBV is not a distant issue. It is a daily reality affecting girls and women in their homes, schools, workplaces and online spaces.

As we walked, we carried the message loud and clear:
Let’s end femicide.
Let’s end physical, sexual, emotional, digital, cultural, social and economic violence.
Let’s build a Malawi where every girl is safe, valued, and heard.

Events like this are powerful and our work must continue every day through advocacy, community engagement and pushing for accountability and justice for all survivors.

Girls Evolve remains committed to championing the rights, safety and dignity of every girl and woman. Together, we can end GBV.

On 2 December, Girls Evolve joined YouthFirst Malawi and other stakeholders in delivering an impactful 16 Days of Activism event at Kalimabwera Primary School in TA Chadza.

The session focused on raising awareness about the different forms of violence that girls face in schools, homes and their communities including sexual, physical, emotional, digital, cultural, social and economic violence. Students bravely highlighted the forms of abuse they encounter and we also encouraged boys to act as allies in ending gender-based violence.

Kalimabwera is a rural primary school where learners face numerous challenges. Teachers reported increasing cases of child marriage, with girls marrying as early as 13, long walking distances to school, poverty, lack of basic needs and limited learning materials. The school also lacks basic necessities such as books and electricity, hindering efforts to improve girls’ education.

Despite these obstacles, the engagement was powerful.Learners showed strong participation, openness and a willingness to speak out about the issues affecting them. Together, we explored how children can report abuse, claim their rights, and fulfil their responsibilities.

Girls Evolve remains committed to ending violence against girls and creating inclusive, safe learning environments where every girl child thrives.
Together, we can end GBV.

Girls Evolve, in partnership with the Rumphi District Council through the Gender Office and various local organisations, conducted the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence on 28 November at Chiweta Ground. This year’s commemoration focused on ending digital gender-based violence against girls and women.

The event began with chiefs and the Guest of Honour touring exhibition stands, where they learned about the work different organisations are doing both in offices and within communities. The District Gender Officer introduced the 2025 theme, “Unite to End Digital Gender-Based Violence Against Girls and Women,” highlighting the rising cases of online abuse and encouraging girls and women to report all forms of digital violations.

Traditional leaders expressed appreciation for the unity shown by organisations in protecting women and girls. Performances such as poems, drama, and malipenga delivered powerful messages reinforcing the day’s theme.

Judge Cuthbert Phiri educated the community on the legal implications of online abuse, stressing that sharing sensitive information about women and girls without consent is a serious offence punishable by a K2,000,000 fine or up to five years imprisonment.

The Guest of Honour reaffirmed the need to safeguard the rights of girls and women and encouraged stronger collaboration between organisations and communities. The commemoration concluded with an exciting football match between Rumphi Sisters and Luwuchi CDSS.

Girls Evolve remains firmly committed to ending all forms of violence against women and girls.

Congratulations to our Founder and Executive Director, Grace Mwambira! 🌍💚

We are so proud to celebrate our Founder, Grace Mwambira, for being selected among the top three winners of the pitch competition at the Africa Continental Workshop on Accelerating Youth-Led Action in Addressing Climate Mobility in Africa, organized by IOM - UN Migration in Nairobi, Kenya! 🏆🇲🇼

Grace’s winning pitch focuses on creating early warning systems through SMS alerts and a free climate hotline to help communities in Malawi prepare for and respond to climate-related disasters.

This innovation builds on Girls Evolve’s mission to empower women and girls to lead local climate solutions, strengthen resilience, and create safer, more informed communities.

We are inspired by her passion, leadership, and determination to put rural voices especially women and girls at the center of climate action.

Happy Mother’s Day🌸

Today, we celebrate the love, strength and resilience of mothers.

Child marriage steals girls’ childhoods, education and opportunities. Every girl deserves the chance to grow, learn and lead before she nurtures a family.

Let’s build a world where motherhood is celebrated, not imposed.
A world where girls become mothers when they are ready , healthy, educated and empowered.
