Chamanza Community Foundation for Development A Youth led Community Foundation that fosters community development through local citizen participation and grassroot solutions.

We are excited to celebrate the successful completion of our year-long Mwana wa Mzako Donate a Book Campaign!
Through the generosity of local individuals, institutions, private players and community members, we collected and handed over over 600 textbooks valued at more than MWK 10 million to Njolomole and Kadzakalowa CDSSs and Mchenga Junior Primary School.
A heartfelt thank you to all our contributors, including Malawi Adventist University – Lakeview Campus, TOS Car Clinic, Tivekeni Initiative , Pamudzi Pathu Initiative, KadJem Trust, villagers and many others who contributed books, money and even transport for the books..
We also appreciate the Head Teachers, School Management Committees and students for committing to take good care of the books for the benefit of current and future learners.

Special appreciation goes to Mudzi Connect, our key partner in promoting community philanthropy and local giving. This campaign is a clear demonstration that when communities come together and contribute what they have, meaningful change is possible.

We believe that meaningful and sustainable development begins with people taking responsibility for the development of their own communities.

Our communities have immense potential through the skills, ideas, resources, time and networks of local citizens, our friends in the diaspora, traditional leaders, councils, organisations, the private sector and other partners. What we need is to bring these resources together through transparent, accountable and collaborative partnerships.

As a community foundation, Chamanza Community Foundation believes our role is to help create that platform: to listen to community needs, mobilise resources and ensure that resources are effectively and transparently channelled towards initiatives that can make a real difference.

To the people of Inkosi Njolomole and all Amakhosi across the district: development is not something we should wait for others to bring to us. As President Kagame reminds us, “Nobody owes us development; we owe it to ourselves.”

So, let us take the lead.

Over the week, our Project Officers participated in the second AFR100 Boot Camp organized by MHub in coordination with the FAO Malawi.

The boot camp provided an important platform for learning, collaboration and innovation as participants strengthened their skills in implementing landscape restoration initiatives that creates a lasting environmental and economic impact.

Chamanza Community Foundation is implementing the Ndivekeni project which aligns with the AFR100 program as it aims at restoring degraded natural forests through tree planting and assisted natural regeneration. Beyond environmental conservation, the initiative promotes sustainable utilization of forest resources and creates income-generating opportunities for local communities particularly young people.

Through this boot camp, our team is gaining valuable knowledge and practical tools that will enhance project implementation, strengthen community engagement and contribute to a greener and more resilient future.

We remain committed to empowering communities to restore ecosystems while improving livelihoods.

Chamanza Community Foundation was honored to participate in the CF Convening 2026, organized by Mudzi Connect from 29–30 May 2026. Representing the Foundation were our Head of Programs and Board Member responsible for Resource Mobilization who joined leaders from other 10 community foundations across the country.
This convening provided a valuable platform for reflection, learning and strategic planning as partners collectively mapped out the future of the Community Philanthropy Program for the period 2026–2029.

Through engaging discussions and peer learning sessions, participants shared experiences, best practices, lessons learned and innovative approaches to strengthening community-led development. The meeting reinforced the importance of strong governance systems, sustainable resource mobilization, meaningful community engagement and collaboration among community foundations.

For Chamanza Community Foundation, the convening was particularly important as it provided an opportunity to contribute to the development of a shared vision and strategy that places communities at the center of their own development. The discussions highlighted the power of local leadership and community philanthropy in creating sustainable and lasting change.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Mudzi Connect, World Connect and the C.S. Mott Foundation for creating this platform and for their continued investment in strengthening community foundations in Malawi.

Together, we are building stronger communities, fostering local giving and ensuring that communities lead the development agenda that affects their lives.

Ndivekeni Project at AFR100 Bootcamp Training🌱

We are excited to share that Chamanza participated in a 3-day AFR100 Bootcamp 1 Acceleration Training held from 21st–23rd April 2026 at Nkhalango Lodge in Ntcheu Boma.

Chamanza was proudly represented by our Project Coordinator and Program Manager who joined other selected participants from across the district for this impactful training organized under the AFR100 initiative.

The bootcamp covered key areas including:
✅ Design thinking for restorative business growth
✅ Land restoration basics and sustainable practices
✅ Embracing Innovation, technology as scaling strategies for growth-stage ventures
✅ Business mindset, storytelling, and impact-driven entrepreneurship

Our project, Ndivekeni, is a restoration, livelihood, and economic empowerment initiative. Through this project, we are:
🌳 Promoting tree nursery enterprises for youth and women clubs
🐝 Encouraging sustainable use of natural forests through bee farming
🔥 Supporting efficient utilization of e energy through energy saving stoves and briquette production which will be packaged as an alternative energy business
•Advancing land restoration efforts in communities

As part of our role, Chamanza continues to connect these groups to markets including government institutions, private sector partners and individual buyers to ensure sustainability and income generation.

The AFR100 (African Forest Landscape Restoration Initiative) aims to restore 100 million hectares of land across Africa, with support from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and implementation in Malawi is led by MHub in Ntcheu and Mangochi.

This training has strengthened our capacity to scale impact and we are excited to apply the knowledge gained to further empower communities and restore our environment.

The Timange project had an engagement meeting with its beneficiaries including their parents/guardians just to share with them the project lay out and what their roles are for the success of the project.
It was encouraging to see that both the girls and parents have shown interest to participate and support the success of this project.
It was pleasing to see them accepting the responsibilities assigned which is an indication of total project ownership and an assurance of project sustainability.

Yesterday, we had the privilege of engaging with local leadership, community members, and school authorities at Kadzakalowa CDSS following concerns raised about the school’s infrastructure.

Strong winds recently blew off part of a classroom block roof. Although temporary repairs were made, the structure remains in a dangerous and dilapidated state, posing a real threat to students and disrupting learning. During heavy rains and storms, classes are often dismissed, and the classrooms are no longer conducive for effective teaching and learning.

Through a needs assessment conducted at VDC level, this challenge was identified as one of the most urgent issues affecting the community. After a productive engagement meeting yesterday, Chamanza Community Foundation have agreed to work hand-in-hand with community leaders and stakeholders to address this pressing issue. Together, we are launching the "Kadzakalowa Classroom Block Renovation Project".

This initiative calls for collective action and we are appealing to Community members, Government institutions, Private sector partners and individual Well-wishers to support our fundraising efforts and help us restore a safe and dignified learning environment for our children.

At the heart of this effort is a strong belief in local giving and community philanthropy. Sustainable development begins with us by coming together, pooling resources and taking ownership of the challenges we face.

Yesterday, we held an engagement meeting with the Village Development Committee and youth network chairpersons to mark the launch of "Timange Project" where about 10 girls aged 17-25 will undergo a 6 months training in Fashion designing.
These 6 months have been divided in 2 where in the first 3 months they will be doing the actual class training and another 3 months doing practicals.
To enhance ownership, VDCs and Youth Networks have been trusted to identify girls who meet the criteria using the screening tool provided. We expect parents to take an important role in providing these girls with other basic needs considering that they will be away from home in the next 3 months.
Timange Project aims to empower young girls with employable skills that will build a generation of independent girls free from Gender Based Violence. The project will enhance economic stability among girls as it will establish a business hub for them and facilitate market linkage activities to ensure that they have access to competitive markets.
Through the hub, we expect these girls to act as models and train other girls in fashion designing.
