A Home for Street-Connected Children in Mzuzu

Joy as we hand Over “Casa di Eleonora e Giovani”

A day of celebration and thanksgiving for the Community of St. Egidio in Mzuzu as they officially handed over a newly established home for street-connected children. The house, named “Casa di Eleonora e Giovani” (House of Eleonora and Giovanni), marks a major milestone in the community’s long-standing commitment to the most vulnerable little ones.

The journey of St. Egidio in Mzuzu began 22 years ago with the School of Peace ,a service dedicated to bringing children off the streets and into a space of learning, friendship, and dignity. That small seed of love has now grown into a tangible symbol of resilience. The new house stands as a true reflection of the consistency and determination of the Mzuzu community.
Currently, the house is home to two children, with plans to accommodate six in the near future. It is a safe, loving environment where children who once lived on the streets can find shelter, care, and hope for a better tomorrow.

What makes this event even more significant is that Malawi now has a St. Egidio home for street-connected children in every major city. From Lilongwe to Blantyre, and now Mzuzu, no child is forgotten.
The atmosphere yesterday was filled with pure joy. Community members gathered to witness the handover, and their happiness was unmistakable. In a heartfelt show of commitment, the people of Mzuzu community pledged to take care of the house and use it faithfully for its intended purpose to protect and nurture children in need.

Speaking at the ceremony, our local responsible for the school of peace Crief Creo Daniel expressed deep gratitude to the founder of the Community of St. Egidio for believing in the little children and for allowing this work to spread across the world. “Though Mzuzu is far from Rome, we are connected by the same love and the same mission,” one member said. “This house is proof that no distance is too great when it comes to caring for a child.”

The handover ceremony concluded with prayers, a true celebration of community, resilience, and the enduring power of love.
For the children who will call Casa di Eleonora e Giovani their home, yesterday was not just a handover. It was the beginning of a new chapter.

Over the past weeks, we have witnessed something beautiful at the House of Friendship: more and more children are coming to the School of Peace and more street-connected children are finding a place where they are welcomed, listened to, and cared for.

While this growth fills us with joy, it also reminds us of the responsibility we share to continue supporting these children with learning activities, friendship, and meals.

For this reason, next week ECO-LAB will be open for everyone who would like to support this mission. We invite you to come and shop, donate items, or simply learn more about the work being done.

Every purchase made at ECO-LAB becomes more than a transaction. It becomes a contribution to a child's meal, a learning opportunity, a moment of friendship, and a source of hope.

In a world where many wonder how they can make a difference, ECO-LAB offers a simple answer: what you no longer need can become a blessing for someone else, and what you choose to buy can help sustain a community.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who has donated, volunteered, and shopped with us so far. Your support is helping us keep the doors of friendship open.

Come visit ECO-LAB. Shop. Donate. Share hope.

Together, we can continue turning generosity into opportunity and friendship into a brighter future for many children.

Yesterday, we continued our mission of friendship and service to the poor through food distribution activities in Bvumbwe, Thyolo, and Tchoda in Chiradzulu.

Through this initiative, we managed to distribute 70 food packs to elderly people and children from the School of Peace communities. In many homes today, the struggle for daily food has become a painful reality, especially for the most vulnerable members of society. As a community rooted in friendship and solidarity with the poor, we continue to stand close to those who suffer most.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the Mother Community for their generous support and constant closeness to the poor in Malawi. Your kindness has brought hope and relief to many families.

At Sant’Egidio, we believe that nobody should face hunger alone. Together, through friendship and solidarity, we continue building a more compassionate and peaceful society

AT THE SCHOOL OF PEACE
Today we gathered once again for the service of the School of Peace together with the street-connected children. It was a day made up of simple moments, yet filled with deep meaning.

The children first spent time playing together, laughing freely, and rediscovering the joy of being children. Later, they were divided into classes according to their ages and school levels, where they shared moments of learning, listening, and encouragement. In a world that often forgets them, these moments remind us that every child deserves attention, dignity, and hope.

What touched us even more was seeing people freely offer themselves to volunteer and help with the service. Every hand that serves, every smile shared, and every moment given becomes a sign of love and peace for these children.

After the activities, the children shared lunch together a simple meal, but one that carried the warmth of solidarity and care. This was made possible through the support from ECO-LAB. At the same time, friends came to shop at ECO-LAB, becoming part of this mission without even realizing how much hope they help create.

Today reminded us that changing lives does not always begin with extraordinary things. Sometimes it begins with showing up, sharing a meal, buying an item, donating what we have, or simply giving our time to another person.

We are truly grateful:
To those who volunteer and walk this journey with us.
To those who donate items and resources.
To those who support ECO-LAB through their purchases.

Because through these small acts of generosity, children begin to dream again, hope is restored, and peace quietly grows in the hearts of many.

The door remains open for anyone who wishes to join us to serve, to support, and to become part of a community where love is made visible through action.

Today at the House of Friendship in Blantyre, we gathered with the children for our School of Peace service a moment filled with hope, laughter, and purpose.

The children were encouraged to dream boldly, to speak about the futures they imagine for themselves, and to believe that those dreams are valid and possible. Listening to them share what they want to become was a powerful reminder that every child carries a vision worth nurturing.

Later,, the children came together in joy playing games, building friendships, and sharing a simple meal. These small but meaningful moments are what truly shape a sense of belonging and dignity.

What made today even more special is that all these resources were made possible through ECO-LAB. It is a testament to what can happen when a community chooses to support its own when creativity, generosity, and purpose come together.

But the journey does not end here.

We invite you to be part of this story:
♤Come and volunteer your time, your presence can inspire a child.

♤Support and donate, every contribution helps sustain these moments.

♤Buy from ECO-LAB because through ECO-LAB, many dreams are quietly being turned into reality.

Together, we can continue to create spaces where children are seen, heard, and empowered to become who they are meant to be.

Blantyre, Malawi Building Stronger Communities Through Rights-Based Registration
In Blantyre today, the BRAVO programme reaches an important milestone as it concludes a four day training dedicated to advancing a vital theme: Human Rights-Based Empowerment of Communities for Improved Access to Civil Registration Services and the Protection of Women’s Rights in Malawi.
This training brought together staff from the National Registration Bureau (NRB) and BRAVO programme teams serving Blantyre District. Organized in two cohorts to ensure meaningful participation and depth of engagement, the sessions created space not only for technical learning, but for reflection on the deeper purpose of civil registration as a tool for dignity, inclusion, and justice.

At the opening, the District Commissioner for Blantyre, Mr. Alexander Mdoko, reminded participants of the fundamental importance of such initiatives. Civil registration, he emphasized, is not merely an administrative function it is a gateway to rights. Without it, individuals, especially women and children, risk remaining invisible, excluded from essential services and protections.

Mr. Mdoko also expressed appreciation to the Community of Sant’Egidio for the continued presence and impact of the BRAVO programme in the district. He highlighted the programme’s strong partnership with government institutions and its unwavering commitment to supporting birth registration efforts, which remain a cornerstone in safeguarding identity and access to rights.
Throughout the training, participants explored how a human rights-based approach can transform the way services are delivered placing communities at the center, strengthening accountability, and ensuring that no one is left behind. Particular attention was given to the protection of women’s rights, recognizing the barriers many still face in accessing documentation and the broader implications this has on their social and economic empowerment.

As the training concludes, it leaves behind more than enhanced capacity. It reinforces a shared responsibility: to translate knowledge into action, to reach the most vulnerable, and to ensure that every person is recognized, registered, and respected.
In this commitment, the BRAVO programme continues to walk alongside communities and institutions alike building a future where rights are not abstract ideals, but lived realities for all.

Yesterday, the Youth for Peace from Blantyre responded to the urgent needs of our brothers and sisters affected by floods in Nsanje District.

We visited about 450 flood victims in areas such as Dyelatu, Masenjele, Nchalo, Lengwe, and Bereu Tomali, just to mention a few. Together, we shared food packs and some basic materials to support those who have lost so much.

Let us continue to stand together and not forget those who are still in need. 🤍
