Hope for People with Disability in Mzuzu -HOPDAM has bemoaned the increasing tendency of hiding children with disability in homes by some parents and guardians in the City.

HOPDAM Executive Director, Waitha Gondwe observed that many children with special needs are being denied an opportunity to access education as a result of stigma and discrimination.

Speaking during a day-long disability bylaws sensitization meeting at Kazando and Mchengautaba clusters in Mzuzu, Gondwe said it high time parents realized that children with disability have potential to perform well in schools and become productive citizen of this nation in future.

Muthembo Mother Care Group member Agnes Honde and Florence Phiri representing Village Headman Mthobvu hailed HOPDAM for developing the bylaws and pledged to popularize them to change the current status-quo.

HOPDAM is carrying out the initiative in Mzuzu with financial support from a South African based organization known as Hlanganisa.
