We are proud to stand in support of our partners behind — a powerful initiative turning music, unity, and compassion into real impact.

This is more than just an event. It’s a chance to come together and help build a safe and dignified home for a vulnerable family in need — a mother battling mental illness, a chronically ill father, and their three young children.

Every voice, every presence, and every contribution matters.

Let’s show up. Let’s give. Let’s be part of something that truly changes lives.

PUBLIC STATEMENT

Condemning Gender-Based Violence by Public Officials

Date: 02 May 2026

The People First Foundation strongly condemns the actions of Jomo Osman following the circulation of a video showing him physically assaulting a woman allegedly suspected of theft.

Let us be unequivocal: a Mayor has zero legal authority to physically punish any individual. The role of a public official is to uphold the law—not to take it into their own hands. The woman in question is innocent until proven guilty by a competent court of law, not by a politician resorting to violence.

This act constitutes Gender-Based Violence (GBV). No allegation, regardless of its nature, justifies assault. Violence against women must never be normalized, excused, or tolerated—especially by those entrusted with public office.

Leadership sets the tone for society. When individuals in positions of authority engage in acts of violence—under the guise of enforcing discipline—they send a dangerous message that such behavior is acceptable. This undermines national efforts to combat GBV and erodes public trust in leadership.

A Mayor governs; he does not police, adjudicate, or punish citizens through physical force. The victim in this incident was entitled to the full protection of the law, including her right to dignity, due process, and presumption of innocence.

This incident reflects a troubling and recurring pattern. Similar conduct was previously raised involving Engineer Mumba. In both instances, the expectation is the same: accountability without exception. No title or position should shield any individual from the consequences of unlawful conduct.

Malawi cannot claim to be advancing the fight against GBV at the community level while tolerating such violations within leadership. The question must be asked: What message does this send to ordinary Malawians? That those in power can inflict violence on women when they feel justified?
That is not leadership. That is an abuse of power.

We call upon relevant authorities to take immediate and appropriate action, ensuring that justice is served and that such conduct is not repeated. Upholding the rule of law must remain paramount.

Meet Our Umoza Academy Teachers ❤️

At first, we were worried…
What kind of teachers would we have?

Then God answered. 🙏

Teacher Ruth. Teacher Martha. Teacher Love.

Not just teachers… but hearts full of love, patience, and purpose.

From September 2025 to today, they have carried this vision with passion.
They teach with love.
They stand in unity.
They care deeply for every child—and for each other.

Every smile in class, every small step a child takes… it’s because of them. ❤️

Umoza Academy is a free nursery school for orphans and underprivileged children in Mzuzu.

We don’t make profit—but we make impact.

And honestly… it’s not easy to teach for free.

It takes sacrifice. It takes calling.
To our amazing team—People First Foundation is proud of you. We celebrate you. 👏

Happy anniversary to us! 🎉
This is just the beginning. ✨

Meet our Executive Director.

Here is our visionary thinker, the man behind People First Foundation — Lumbani Kaunda. As the founder, his leadership over the past year has been truly impactful.

In just one year, he has successfully secured four meaningful partnerships, including collaborations with Rafiki Foundation Schools for our Umoza Academy, Computer Enhancement for Education, Clean Birthing Kits Foundation (Australia), and the Do Your Part Initiative. In addition, many local individuals have generously supported People First Foundation.

Under his guidance, we have also established Umoza Academy — a pre-school dedicated to supporting orphans and underprivileged children.

Lumbani believes that together, we can all smile.

Today, 1st April 2026, we proudly celebrate 1 year of People First Foundation.

In just one year, what began as a vision has grown into meaningful action and real impact within our communities.

Through initiatives such as Umoza Academy, we have promoted inclusive education and created opportunities for learners to thrive.

Through our Birthing Kit Distribution, in collaboration with Birthing Kit Foundation Australia, we have supported vulnerable pregnant women with clean and safe childbirth.

And through our continued community outreach and empowerment efforts, we have stood for dignity, human rights, and compassion for all.

This journey has been made possible by the unwavering support of our partners, volunteers, and community members—thank you for believing in our mission.

As we step into another year, we remain committed to reaching further, doing more, and transforming even more lives.

The journey continues—and we invite you to be part of it.

Today, we join the ld world in recognising the importance of clean water and the role it plays in our daily lives.

At Umoza Academy, we teach our children the importance of hygiene, from washing hands to staying clean and healthy. These simple practices help create a safe and supportive learning environment

We continue to encourage everyone in our communities to practice good hygiene every day.

As we grow, we also look forward to strengthening hygiene practices at Umoza Academy, ensuring that every child has access to basic essentials that support their wellbeing.

Together, we can build healthier communities and brighter futures for our children.
