International Youth Day 2026: Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.

On this International Youth Day 2026, we reflect on the United Nations theme: “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”

Across Malawi, young people may live in different circumstances, but our aspirations are the same: dignity, opportunity, quality education, decent work, justice, peace, and a real voice in decisions that affect us.

With 51% of Malawi’s population aged 10-35, young people are not just the future. We are the present.

Malawi cannot afford to waste the potential of its largest generation. We need real investment, real participation, and real inclusion — in government, in the economy, in civic space, and in leadership.

Youth and Society (YAS) reaffirms its commitment to advancing meaningful youth participation and supporting youth-led action for a democratic, prosperous Malawi.

Malawi must listen. And act.

Strengthening Civic Space from the Grassroots!

We are proud to host a 2-day training for 15 District Civil Society Networks from across Malawi on "Civic Space Early Warning Systems".

With support from Hivos Malawi, this training will equip district CSO networks with practical tools to identify early signs of civic space challenges, Document & verify developments at community level, and Report in a timely and safe manner to protect rights and freedoms.

Building resilient, informed, and responsive networks is key to protecting civic space in Malawi.

The Youth-Decide Campaign calls on the Malawi Human Rights Commission and His Excellency President Arthur Peter Mutharika to consider appointing at least one qualified young Commissioner in the new cohort of Commissioners.

We have young professionals ready to serve with merit, competence and independence.
