What's our take from the Youth led Climate Justice March on 31 March, 2026 in Lilongwe 🇲🇼.
When we talk of walking the talk in Climate justice, others see it as just a mere talk. It is a different story for those of us who have a deep attachment (passion to act) to environmental systems, our livelihoods and how they relate to Climate change.
We acknowledge that, both humans and nature are contributing to Climate change but the gap is that Nature on its own reverses the trend, but humans need to put in effort to reverse the the induced degradation and Climate change (e.g. pollution).
As a majority population and a reserve force for innovation and environmental management, we share roles in the force building resilience, but we are constrained by from our adult counterparts, duty bearers and stakeholders who can support our cause for national good.
The solidarity March and petition deposit to Parliament is an expression of to do whatever we can; contributing the little knowledge, skills and time we can to creating and scaling up relevant solutions to existing and potential danger that our lives are into.
Some do not believe our lives are in danger, but we understand we are sitting on a ticking time bomb because we study even the smallest shifts in the natural design of the ecosystem and how we are a threat as well as victims to it.
We need everything that can be put on our drawing board, be it:
1. Motivation through appreciation and recognition
2. Material resource
3. Financial resources
4. Friendly policy space (involvement, taxation subsidies, infrastructure, prioritization e.t.c.).
5. Accountability on Climate and Environmental operations and resources
As young people we will live long to face/suffer the consequences of climate change, but we could buy a better day if we initiate resilience strategies.
"There is nothing good for us without us..... we need all hands on deck".
