Road Safety Parade.

A collaborative effort between various stakeholders, including Team New Vision Youth Organization, Road Safety Alert Foundation, Malawi Police Service, and local schools, aimed at promoting road safety awareness among the public.

The parade focused on educating the community about the dangers of:

- Conducting business near main roads
- Overloading kabaza (motorcycle) with more than two passengers
- Excessive speeding in market, school, and construction areas
- The importance of staying alert when crossing or using main roads

Through this initiative, the team sought to raise awareness and promote responsible road usage among all.

John Chilembwe is celebrated as a national hero in Malawi for his role in fighting against colonialism and advocating for African rights. He is remembered for his bravery, leadership, and vision for a free and independent Malawi.

Every year on January 15th, Malawians celebrate John Chilembwe Day, a public holiday that honors his life and legacy. Here's how we Malawians celebrate:
- Speeches and tributes: Government officials, traditional leaders, and other dignitaries deliver speeches and pay tributes to John Chilembwe, highlighting his contributions to Malawi's struggle for independence.
- Cultural performances: Traditional dances, songs, and dramas are performed to showcase Malawi's rich cultural heritage and to honor Chilembwe's legacy.
- Memorial services: Special memorial services are held at the John Chilembwe Memorial Tower in Mbombwe, where Chilembwe was born, and in other parts of the country.

Roads Safety Alert Foundation (ROSAF), in collaboration with the Malawi Police and the Kabaza Association of Malawi (K**A), has launched a road safety awareness campaign to educate Kabaza operators on the importance of adhering to safety measures, with an aim of reducing road accidents across the country.

The initiative, spearheaded by ROSAF Operations Director Reverend Noel Mhango, targeted various townships in Lilongwe to reach Kabaza operators, who are often involved in road accidents. He urged operators to register their motorcycles and bicycles and prepare for upcoming road safety training scheduled for January 2025.

Inspector Peter Monje of the Malawi Police encouraged Kabaza operators to take responsibility for reporting accidents and suspicious activities. He also advised them to prioritize their safety over profits, particularly by avoiding late-hour operations.

K**A President Joseph Petulo stressed the need for compliance, warning that operators who fail to adhere to safety regulations will face legal consequences.

As we celebrate the holidays with loved ones, let's not forget to prioritize road safety. Team New Vision Youth Org, is proud of Road Safety Alert Foundation for promoting safe driving practices and reduce road accidents.

Remember to:

Drive sober and avoid distractions while driving
Wear your seatbelt and ensure all passengers do the same
Follow traffic rules and regulations
Be cautious of pedestrians and other road users
Plan your route and check the weather forecast before embarking on a journey

Road Safety Alert Foundation is working tirelessly to make our roads safer, and we're honored to support their efforts. Let's do our part to make this festive season a joyous and accident-free one for all!

Road Safety Sensitization at Bethel Primary School

Today, in partnership with Road Safety Alert Foundation, we visited Bethel Primary School to sensitize the students about road safety on their Closing Day.

Our focus was on the dangers of "Kabaza" (motorcycle, bicycle: taxis) carrying multiple children, which can lead to accidents. We also emphasized the importance of adult supervision when children are cycling to school.

The students, parents and guardians were engaged and receptive to the message. We're proud to be playing a part in shaping responsible road users of the future!

Special thanks to Road Safety Alert Foundation for on this initiative. Together, let's make our roads safer for everyone!
