Success Story:Tigwirane Manja Youth Club Making a Difference

Since its establishment in 2010, Tigwirane Manja Youth Club, a community-based organization registered under the Mulanje District Youth Office, has been transforming lives and protecting the environment despite limited resources.

With a strong commitment to environmental conservation, education, health promotion, and the reduction of early child marriages, the club has become a beacon of hope in the community. One of its notable achievements is the establishment of a community forest, which stands today as a symbol of resilience and dedication to restoring the environment. In addition, the club has actively supported girls in pursuing their education, helping to create brighter futures and reduce early marriages.

During the 2025–2026 tree planting season, the club set an ambitious goal to plant and distribute over 3,000 seedlings. Through teamwork and determination, Tigwirane Manja Youth Club successfully planted 2,000 seedlings and distributed 500 more to volunteers, churches, schools, and community members. These efforts have not only increased tree cover but have also raised awareness about the importance of environmental conservation.

This achievement highlights the club’s unwavering commitment to combating climate change and empowering the community. Tigwirane Manja Youth Club continues to prove that even with limited funding, meaningful and lasting impact is possible when passion and community spirit come together.

Tigwirane Manja Youth Club (TMYC) Success Story

Tigwirane Manja Youth Club is one of the well-established youth clubs from Nessa Village, recognized for its impactful and inspiring journey.

In 2012, a devastating flood occurred along the Luchenya River, which washed away a significant number of trees and left the riverbanks exposed and vulnerable. In response to this environmental challenge, Tigwirane Manja Youth Club took initiative as a visionary group committed to restoration and sustainability.

Through dedication and teamwork, the club organized and implemented a tree-planting campaign along the affected areas of the Luchenya River. Over the years, this effort has transformed into a thriving forest, contributing to environmental conservation, soil protection, and climate resilience in the area.

The sun was shining brightly over the school yard as children gathered with excitement. It was a special day at the school because it was Tree Planting Season, a time when everyone came together to protect the environment and create a greener future.
Early in the morning, a vehicle arrived carrying young tree seedlings. The children quickly gathered around, smiling and chatting as they received the plants. Each child carefully held a small tree in their hands, knowing that it represented hope for the future. Teachers and community volunteers guided them, explaining how trees help bring rain, provide shade, and protect the soil.
With enthusiasm, the children walked across the school grounds holding their seedlings. Some carried watering cups while others helped their friends hold the young trees. Their green school uniforms blended beautifully with the fresh leaves of the seedlings they carried.
Soon the planting began. Small holes were dug in the soil, and the young trees were gently placed into the ground. The children carefully covered the roots with soil and watered them. Laughter and teamwork filled the air as everyone worked together.
By the end of the day, many trees had been planted around the school. The once empty spaces were now filled with young plants that would grow into strong trees. The children felt proud because they knew they had done something important for their school, their community, and the planet.
As they walked home, they promised to care for the trees and watch them grow. One day, those small seedlings would become tall trees, providing shade, fresh air, and beauty for many generations to come. 🌱🌳

, Tigwirane Manja Youth Club successfully conducted a tree planting exercise in Mulanje District as part of efforts to promote environmental conservation. The activity was carried out in collaboration with WESM, whose main goal is to encourage communities to plant more trees and protect the environment.
The exercise took place at Chanunkha Primary School and Changoni Primary School, where members of the youth club and community participants planted several tree seedlings around the school premises. The activity aimed to promote a greener environment, prevent soil erosion, and raise awareness among learners and the surrounding community about the importance of trees.
Speaking during the activity, representatives from Tigwirane Manja Youth Club emphasized the importance of protecting natural resources in Mulanje District. They encouraged students and community members to take responsibility for caring for the planted trees so that they can grow and benefit future generations. 🌱🌳
