Pan-African Civic Educators Network (PACENET) has donated sanitary pads to 60 schoolgirls from four schools in Luchenza Township, Thyolo, to help keep girls in school.

PACENET Programmes Manager, Rex Mlotha, said many girls miss classes during their menstrual periods due to a lack of sanitary materials, stressing the importance of providing essentials such as school uniforms, bathing towels, soap and learning materials to keep them focused on their education.

Mlotha added that with funding from the Hilden Charitable Fund, the organisation is implementing a girls’ education programme targeting 120 girls from both primary and secondary schools within Luchenza Zone.

A learner at Luchenza Secondary School, Precious Thom, said receiving school uniforms and sanitary pads will help reduce her absenteeism, which was previously caused by a lack of these items.

Luchenza Zone PEA, William Sande, commended PACENET for the support, saying many parents struggle to provide basic school necessities, a challenge that often affects learners’ progress.
