A local non-governmental organization, Youth Impact, has donated meals worth K760,000 to 230 patients admitted to Machinga District Hospital.

Youth Impact Organization, Executive Director Belinda Somanje Chimombo said the donation was made possible through support from two Malawians living in the United States of America.

She said the initiative was aimed at easing the hospital's food challenges and appealed to more individuals and organizations to support patients with food and other essential needs.

A nurse at Machinga District Hospital, Elitina Sankhulani, welcomed the donation, saying adequate nutrition is vital for patients' recovery. She said the support will complement medical treatment and help improve patients' health outcomes.

One of the beneficiaries Saidi Amin thanked Youth Impact Organization and the donors, saying the meals have eased the burden of hunger.

We conducted cooking demonstrations at Limbikani Community-Based Childcare Centre (CBCC) to train parents, caregivers, and community members on how to prepare nutritious meals using locally available resources. The initiative aims to improve children’s health and nutrition, which can contribute to better learning outcomes by ensuring that children have the energy, concentration, and healthy development needed to actively participate in learning activities.

The demonstrations brought together parents, caregivers, community members, and representatives from nutrition and agricultural authorities.

As part of our ongoing Goat Pass-On Program we conducted a goat vaccination exercise to safeguard the health and productivity of livestock provided to beneficiary households in collaboration with the Area Veterinary Officer. The vaccination protected the goats against common diseases, helping to ensure they remain healthy for breeding and continue contributing to improved household livelihoods.

This exercise reflects our commitment to promoting sustainable livestock farming and strengthening the long-term success of the Goat Pass-On Program. By keeping the goats healthy and productive, we are helping beneficiary families build resilient livelihoods while ensuring the goats can continue to be passed on to other vulnerable households, extending the impact of the initiative throughout the community.
