I find it to be more important for young girls and boys and adults as we are getting closer to the HIV/AIDS free World.

Today I will only share about the;

PRE EXPOSURE PROPHYLAXIS AND POST EXPOSURE PROPHYLAXIS IN HIV MANAGEMENT AND AND ELEMINATION (PEP & PrEP)

The two are the components of HIV prevention and management, but they work differently.

Let me start with PEP( Post Ex̌posture Pŕophylaxis)
It is an emergency treatment taken after a POTENTIAL HIV exposure to prevent infection from taking hold and must be started within 72 hours of exposure.
There is potential exposure to HIV Infection in young girls and boys and adults. Exposure may include; needle prick, injury unprotected s*xual activity and Condom burst. So PEP is an emergency intervention to prevent HIV /AIDS infection.

PEP is a combination of antiretral viral drugs taken for 28 days starting within 72 hours of exposure.
Starting PEP as soon as possible after exposure is crucial for its effectiveness.
It is important to note that PEP is not a replacement of consistence use of Condoms or other preventive measures. It is also imperative to know your status before start taking PEP.
For the successful results, do not skip a dose or fail to complete the full month as this makes it less likely to work, do not double dose if you miss one , if you miss a dose and you remember in less than 24 hours, take the next one as soon as you remember.

As any other drugs, PEP also have side effects but are likely to be mild ones in the first few days such as nausea, headache, and tiredness.
Do not take recreational drugs while on PEP
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding you can still take PEP.

Adolescents (10 -19 years old) and young adults face significant challange including limited access to treatment and the need for specialised support as they transition into adulthood. While progress has been made in reducing new HIV infections among children, many still lack access to ARVs and adolescents presents more opportunistic infections.
They face unique challenges when it comes to accepting their diseases. Many adolescents are in denial, afraid, misinformed or lack of familial or social support. Therefore this age gap may benefit counselling services and supportive care.

Other problems faced by the adolescent HIV patients when it comes to HiV treatments and it's regimen include;
1.medicaton related side effects
2.denial and fear of their HIV Infection
3.misinformation
4.low self-esteem
5.lack of Familial and social support just tormenting few.
The best way to overcome all these problems is to form the conducive TEEN Clubs which will be more user friendly where there will be no judgemental, where yourh friendly health services and SRH activities will be carried out as the adolescents attend their clinics.

When young adolescence living with Hiv/aids reach puberty they start
Studying new things as knowledge starts to grow. At times they fail to understand why they are taking their medication daily knowing that they are not sick. They don't even know how they acquired HIV. It is important for Parents and guardians including care givers start the process of Disclosure.

It is recommended that the disclosure should be in phases.
Thus; Partial disclosure and full disclosure.
The assessment is craucial as regarding to disclosure of status
to the child in order toavoid accidental disclosure.
Full disclosure helps the adolescence to cope up with medications and they become able to take medication on their own.

Studies showed that the fully disclosed can leave a health life than the undisclosed.
