A message of vision, mindset, and the future of African agribusiness

As we close the year, we leave you with a powerful reminder from Dr. Akinwumi Adesina a message that captures exactly what we stand for:

“The future of food in the world will depend on what Africa does with agriculture. Agriculture is not a development activity… it is a business. We must use agriculture to create wealth.”

By 2030, Africa’s food and agriculture industry will reach $1 trillion.
And the youth who prepare themselves today will own that future.

This year, Mlimi Watsopano Youth Organisation took its first steps in building a new generation of modern, confident, and business-minded farmers.
Next year, we grow even bigger.
Next year, we train more youth.
Next year, we push for skills, technology, markets, and real agribusiness opportunities.

🔥 2025 was about planting the seeds.
🔥 2026 will be about growing the future.

Meet Dumi Sani Banda
Founder & Communication and Advocacy Lead – Mlimi Watsopano Youth Organization

As a graduate of DMI St. John the Baptist University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and an alumnus of the Huawei Seeds for the Future 2022 program, Dumi Sani Banda brings academic expertise, innovation, and strategic leadership to Mlimi Watsopano Youth Organization.

In his role as Founder and Communication & Advocacy Lead, Dumi drives the organization’s mission to position agriculture as a viable and modern business opportunity for young people in Malawi. His work focuses on shaping narratives, promoting mindset change, and amplifying youth voices in agribusiness.

Beyond his leadership at Mlimi Watsopano, he is also the founder of Unlock stores and co-founder of Unlock Clothing Store, a growing fashion brand he built alongside a close friend demonstrating his passion for youth entrepreneurship and creative enterprise.

Through his communication efforts and advocacy initiatives, Dumi is committed to empowering young agripreneurs, strengthening community engagement, and helping the youth unlock their full potential in agriculture and beyond.

Meet Constance Banda
Co-founder & Finance and Administration Lead at Mlimi Watsopano Youth Organization.

She brings a strong finance and administrative background to Mlimi Watsopano. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a major in Finance Management. Her experience with GIZ under the EYA ATVET Project shaped her passion for youth-focused agricultural development. During her time there, she supported programmes aimed at modernizing agriculture and making vocational training more accessible for young people, strengthening her belief in agribusiness as a powerful tool for youth empowerment and economic growth.

Meet Alex Mphepo
Programs and Innovation Lead at Mlimi Watsopano Youth Organization

Alex is a dedicated development practitioner working to transform how young people engage with agriculture in Malawi. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Development Studies with a minor in Social Work and brings valuable experience in youth engagement, microfinance, and community development.

He has previously worked with the National Youth Network on Climate Change (NYNCC), World Sharp Chisapo Learning Centre, and the National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF). His background blends youth development, financial empowerment, and innovation—giving him a strong foundation for designing initiatives that create real impact.

At Mlimi Watsopano, Alex plays a key role in developing and implementing programs that equip young agripreneurs with practical skills, digital tools, and improved market access. He is passionate about promoting climate-smart agriculture and demonstrating that farming is not just a means of survival, but a space for innovation, opportunity, and a promising future for Malawi’s youth.
