The Vision is to see that special needs, orphans and other vulnerable group’s rights are upheld, and making sure that they are economically, socially empowered and protected so that they are self reliant in their good sustainable environmentally protected area. OBJECTIVES OF THE ORGANISATION
To create a supportive and conducive environment for individuals
with special educational needs orphans and other vulnerable groups so that their hopeless status should be restored and recognized by the whole community and contribute to the
development of the country. To create a greater awareness among parents, caregivers and
stakeholders of the special services provided in their communities
and uphold vulnerable person’s rights through religious and traditional assembly meetings, open days, mobile vans, drama and songs, I.E.C. materials, websites
To motivate, inspire , empower and equip orphans and other
vulnerable persons with basic knowledge, skills, assertiveness and
positive thinking through the yet to be established community resource
centre in order to function as competent and productive citizens in a
free society through a trained volunteers. Creation of a community-based care and rehabilitation centers,
pre-schools, children’s corners and provide orphans and other
vulnerable children the opportunity to receive psychosocial support,
knowledge and skills
Engage into disaster preparedness, relief and sustainable livelihood services to all the
vulnerable persons.

*ALARMING TEEN PREGNANCY FIGURES IN KASUNGU*
Kasungu District has recorded over 5,000 pregnancies among girls aged 10-19 between January and May this year. 176 of the girls terminated their pregnancies.

The figures were disclosed yesterday at Chisazima village by Kasungu District Youth Friendly Health Services Coordinator, Ensai Zimba. He was speaking during a constituency awareness campaign on teenage pregnancies under the SADC Parliamentary Forum’s Sexual Reproductive Health Rights project, implemented by Parliament of Malawi.

Zimba described the statistics as alarming and called for urgent interventions, including taking Youth Friendly Health Services more frequently to young people in hard-to-reach areas.

Kasungu Central MP Chikondi Kampachike Chisale, who also chairs the SADC Parliamentary Forum’s Sexual Reproductive Health Rights Technical Working Group at Parliament, has pledged to lobby for initiatives to curb teenage pregnancies and child marriages.

Meanwhile, Parliament of Malawi SADC Parliamentary Forum SRHR Project Officer Gomezgani Ngwira Kateka says the Swedish Government-funded project will be rolled out to other districts to help reduce teenage pregnancies and child marriage cases.

HOPE MINISTRIES INTERNATIONAL STATEMENT ON MALAWI'S ENVIRONMENTAL CRISIS

Hope Ministries International fully agrees with the concerns highlighted in the recent environmental report warning that Malawi is on a dangerous path due to disappearing forests, declining soil fertility, environmental degradation, and increasing pressure on natural resources. The findings reflect realities that communities across Malawi are already experiencing through recurring droughts, floods, reduced agricultural productivity, water shortages, and increasing food insecurity. Environmental degradation is no longer a future threat but a present challenge affecting livelihoods, health, and the overall well-being of vulnerable populations.

The continued loss of forests at an alarming rate, coupled with unsustainable land use practices, charcoal production, and expanding agricultural pressure, is undermining the ecological systems that support Malawi's economy and food production. Forests play a critical role in protecting watersheds, conserving biodiversity, regulating rainfall patterns, and preventing soil erosion. Their destruction contributes directly to reduced agricultural yields, increased disaster risks, and greater vulnerability to climate change.

As an organization committed to sustainable development, resilience building, and community transformation, Hope Ministries International recognizes that environmental stewardship is inseparable from poverty reduction and humanitarian action. We believe that addressing environmental degradation requires collective action involving government, civil society, faith-based organizations, the private sector, and local communities. Investments in reforestation, climate-smart agriculture, sustainable energy alternatives, watershed protection, and environmental education are essential to safeguarding Malawi's future.

Breaking News: Zomba Mental Hospital Overwhelmed with Young Patients

Zomba, Malawi – The Zomba Mental Hospital is sounding the alarm on the growing number of young people struggling with mental health issues. With over 70% of its 465 patients being secondary school and university students, the hospital is calling for urgent intervention.

Director General Dr. Raphael Piringu attributes the surge to the increasing abuse of dangerous drugs among youths. “We need serious interventions to address this crisis,” he stressed.

Despite the challenges, the hospital’s dedicated staff continue to provide quality care with limited resources. “We applaud their efforts,” Dr. Piringu said during a recent awards ceremony.

The Ministry of Health is considering deploying additional health workers to support the facility. Meanwhile, Zomba Mental Hospital continues to serve five meals a day and has been recognized as a five-star health facility.

In response to the growing mental health crisis among young people in Zomba, Hope Ministries International has expressed readiness to work closely with relevant stakeholders and technical teams to support interventions. The organisation is currently implementing a mental health and su***de prevention project in collaboration with the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom, bringing research-driven and community-based approaches that could complement ongoing efforts at the hospital and district level.
