Meet the new additions to the GHII team Zaithwa Chidalengwa and Steven Chidzanja .

Zaithwa joined us as an OpenO2 volunteer while awaiting her graduation as a Biomedical Engineer from Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST). She has dived right into work and currently working on the Ambulance Oxygen Concentrator.

Steven Chidzanja, a Bachelor of Science in Electronics graduate from University of Malawi - UNIMA joined us as product development intern. He is working on a collaboration project between UNIMA and GHII - the AI powered stethoscope for cardiovascular screening in malawi.

We cannot wait to see the contributions that the two will make to GHII.

Welcome to the team!!!

A glimpse at the EU Delegation’s recent monitoring visit to Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH).

With the SINTHA-Malawi project concluding this week (July 31st), we’re reflecting on the massive strides made in integrated healthcare:
🔹 Faster lab turnaround times via OERR digital integration.
🔹 Improve oxygen access and availability.
🔹 A sustained, empty "concentrator graveyard" thanks to our joint workshop engineering team.

Sustainability and local ownership are the ultimate goals as we take these systems into the future. Watch to see the impact in action.

We had the honor of hosting the European Union Delegation for a monitoring visit at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH).

As the SINTHA-Malawi project nears its conclusion on July 31st, this visit was an opportunity for GHII to showcase how EU-funded interventions have been integrated into existing systems.

The delegation toured the ecosystem of care we've built together:
🟢 At the Wards & Lab (OERR Integration): The delegation saw our Order Entry and Results Reporting (OERR) system in use by ward nurses and lab technicians. By addressing challenges that lead to specimen rejection and improving visibility into the state of lab tests, we have contributed to reducing lab turn around and waiting times.

🟢 At the Pediatric HDU (OpenO2 in Action):What began as an emergency response to COVID-19 has evolved into a sustainable healthcare pillar. The delegation visited the Pediatric High Dependency Unit (HDU) to see the refurbished oxygen concentrators saving lives. On-duty nurses shared how invaluable these machines are, noting they are far more efficient than traditional cylinders and are needed on the wards 24/7.
🟢 At the Workshop: We wrapped up at the workshop where our team together with KCH technicians revive broken equipment, ensuring the hospital's "concentrator graveyard" remains empty.

🔆Sustainability & Ownership
The end of the SINTHA-Malawi project on July 31st marks a critical transition point.
The EU delegation emphasized a vital truth: for these systems to keep saving lives, local ownership is key.

⏭️The next step is for the government to fully recognize the immense value of these integrated systems and absorb them into national healthcare planning.

🙏Thank you to the EU Delegation for their partnership, and to the incredible staff at KCH who bring these systems to life every single day.

🤝Together, we’ve proven what is possible. Now, let’s ensure these gains are sustained for generations to come.

What an incredible time we had last Friday at Kweza Afrika.

⭐️🌟The energy was unmatched as current interns and GHII alumni came together to reconnect, network, and share experiences.

🔆The major highlight of the day was a panel discussion featuring different cohorts of our interns. They shared valuable lessons from their journeys, discussed growth, and offered amazing perspectives on navigating life during and after the GHII internship program.

Beyond the formal discussions, it was a fantastic afternoon of building stronger bonds, creating new connections, and simply having fun together.

At GHII, product development is involves using local innovation and engineering to solve real-world challenges with solutions designed for our context.

🖥To improve work space organization and enhance productivity, our product development team has recently been working on building an adjustable computer monitor stand.

🎥This video captures the creativity, mentorship, teamwork, and hands-on craftsmanship behind that mission.

🧩By involving interns in real projects like this, GHII is helping train the next generation of Malawian engineers and innovators while building solutions that matter.
