Girls in Lilongwe are not just facing challenges , they’re leading through them. Whether it’s climate change, education gaps, or mental health struggles, girls are showing up with bold ideas, fierce resilience, and unstoppable energy.

At She’s the First Lilongwe, we see girls as leaders now. We invest in their voices, their choices, and their power to transform communities. From school clubs to advocacy campaigns, girls are proving that they are not just the future, they are the frontline.

This year’s theme, “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead,” reminds us that every girl deserves to be seen, heard, and supported, especially in times of crisis.

To every girl in Malawi and beyond:
You are the change. You are the light. You are the first and never the last.

I am honored to celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child with the incredible friends I met through our advocacy work. We all came together with a shared passion for creating change and supporting one another. I still remember the first time we met we were all nervous, but our energy brought us closer. As we started working together, we realized that our differences are what make us stronger. We learned to lift each other up, to support each other's ideas and to celebrate our unique strengths. Currently, we're working hand-in-hand on our school project, motivating each other to succeed and learning valuable lessons in teamwork and collaboration. We've had our ups and downs but through it all, we've got each other's backs. When one of us falls, we all get up and encourage each other to keep going. And when one of us shines, we all sparkle.Together we're unstoppable

🕊️ In Loving Memory of Chief Kachindamoto 🕊️

Today, Lilongwe mourns the passing of a trailblazer, a guardian of justice, and a fearless daughter of Malawi—Chief Kachindamoto, the first woman to hold chieftaincy in our region.

Her voice was unwavering. Her leadership, uncompromising. She stood at the frontlines of change, dismantling child marriages, defending girls’ rights, and reshaping tradition with courage and compassion. Where silence once reigned, she spoke. Where injustice lingered, she acted.

Chief Kachindamoto was more than a leader—she was a movement. Her legacy will echo through every girl she protected, every law she challenged, and every community she transformed.

As we grieve, we also rise. We carry her fire forward. We honor her by continuing the work she began—with boldness, with dignity, and with unrelenting purpose.

Rest in power, our mother. Your footsteps have carved a path we will never abandon.

Every girl deserves to learn about her body. Using the Beyond Bleeding, a resource created by girls, for girls as well as My Period Diary by She's the First , we hosted a lively menstruation session at Mphungu Primary School as part of the STF Lilongwe Empower Her Program,

The girls boldly discussed menstruation and products like reusable and disposable pads, menstrual cups, and tampons, and learned how to track their periods with the menstrual calendar. Together, we’re breaking long-held stigma and building self-esteem.
