Disability Awareness Month
3 November – 3 December
GEWO Foundation Malawi Message
From 3 November to 3 December, Garden of Eden Women (GEWO Foundation), Malawi, proudly joins the nation and the global community in celebrating Disability Awareness Month. This month-long commemoration reminds us of the dignity, rights, and strength of persons with disabilities, and the collective responsibility we share in creating inclusive and accessible communities.
Throughout this period, GEWO Foundation reaffirms its unwavering commitment to:
✔️ Promoting disability inclusion across all community structures—health, education, livelihoods, and protection
✔️ Raising awareness to end stigma, discrimination, and harmful beliefs surrounding disability
✔️ Strengthening community-based mental health support for persons with psychosocial disabilities
✔️ Empowering caregivers and families through training, engagement, and psychosocial support
✔️ Ensuring the voices of persons with disabilities are respected and represented in decision-making
✔️ Advocating for disability-friendly policies, services, and environments
This month is more than a celebration—it is a call to action. A call for equality, accessibility, and justice for all persons with disabilities in Malawi and beyond.
As we journey through Disability Awareness Month, GEWO Foundation stands united with persons with disabilities, disability organizations, families, and partners in building communities where everyone belongs and thrives.
“Nothing about us, without us.”
Let us continue to champion inclusion today, tomorrow, and every day
