Studies show that girls who stay in school are most likely not to marry before the age of 18. Across the world, millions of girls lose their childhood every year to early and forced marriage. About 12 million girls are married before the age of 18 each year, a violation of human rights that limits girls’ potential and opportunities.

But research shows that education is one of the most powerful tools we have to end child marriage. Girls who complete secondary school are much less likely to be married as children, and expanding access to education could reduce child marriage by about two-thirds globally.

At For Rights, we believe that protecting girls’ education is one of the strongest pathways to ending child marriage and building stronger communities.

Education is protection. Childhood is a right.‼️‼️

Let’s work together to ensure every girl stays in school and every child is free from early marriage

Today, we join the global community to mark the International Day of Education. This is a reminder that education is not a privilege but a fundamental human right.

Every child deserves the chance to learn and build a future.

100 Students Empowered!

Today, we had the privilege of engaging with 100 learners at Bwaila Secondary School through For Rights, where we conducted a Legal Awareness and Public Education (LEPA) session focused on human rights, leadership, decision-making, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The session created a safe and interactive space for students to understand their rights and responsibilities, reflect on their everyday choices, and explore how young people can serve as advocates for sustainable development within their communities, the nation, and globally.

It was inspiring to witness learners actively engaging with discussions on ethical leadership, informed decision-making, and community responsibility, and recognizing their role as future leaders and change-makers.

Empowering young people with rights-based knowledge, leadership skills, and an understanding of the SDGs is key to nurturing a generation that is confident, responsible, and committed to building inclusive, sustainable, and resilient communities.

Below are highlights of the program.

When people lack safety and rights, vulnerability grows. Empowerment is the strongest prevention. When we reduce violence, we reduce HIV. The fight is connected, and so is our responsibility.

🌸 KEEP A GIRL IN SCHOOL — Nkwichi Secondary School Outreach 🌸

We spent time with the incredible girls of Nkwichi Secondary School under Keep a Girl in School initiative a program by Thandie Chisi & Sustainable Fashion & Women Empowerment dedicated to ensuring that every girl learns, feels safe, and stays empowered. Together with other partners SAT Malawi MIZU Women First International Fund we are commiter to make sure that every girl stays in school, it is not a privilege but a human right.

We had honest conversations about:
✅How girls can identify and report GBV within the school environment
✅Knowing their rights and where to seek help
✅How to stay safe online, protect their digital spaces, and respond to cyberbullying
✅Building confidence, dignity, and sisterhood
✅Why education is a powerful tool for breaking cycles of violence

Every girl deserves safety.
Every girl deserves dignity.
Every girl deserves to finish school.
