Today’s supervision of the Zikomo Project marked an important moment of reflection and accountability as we assessed the progress of the 60 lead farmers previously supported with farm inputs. What we witnessed was tangible growth, disciplined application of knowledge, and a clear return on investment in community capacity. We are deeply impressed by the progress so far, a strong indication that the project is not only taking root, but steadily maturing into sustainable impact.

In our previous post, we shared how Moyo Ngwathu through the Zikomo Project is reshaping the future of TA M’bwatalika through unity, knowledge, and sustainable farming. Today, that vision has taken a meaningful leap forward. Moyo Ngwathu, through the Zikomo Project, is rolling out a sustainable Hunger Relief initiative that empowers communities from the ground up. As the planting season begins, we proudly distributed 10kg of certified maize seed to each of the 60 lead farmers—our torchbearers of change.

These farmers have not only received inputs; they have been equipped with wisdom: modern agricultural techniques, demonstration garden training, and the skill of producing eco-friendly Mbeya fertiliser. They carry the knowledge that transforms fields, households, and futures.
But the true beauty of this project lies in its heart:

We did more than hand out seed—we planted hope.
We nurtured dignity.
We strengthened the promise of a tomorrow where no family is left behind.

In a remarkable show of commitment to education, Moyo Ngwathu, a local non-governmental organisation, has breathed new life into Mpingu Community Day Secondary School in Lilongwe by renovating and restocking its library — a K25 million investment aimed at transforming learning conditions for students. According to Moyo Ngwathu Chief Executive Officer, Ringo Kanshulu, the initiative followed an appeal from the school’s management, who cited a dire shortage of learning materials and a dilapidated library structure as major obstacles to student performance. In response, Moyo Ngwathu partnered with Zikomo Foundation of Germany, securing vital resources for textbooks, furniture, and renovations.With this support, we expect to see a rise in student performance as learners now have access to adequate materials and a conducive study environment. Our ultimate goal is to see students from Mpingu CDSS advancing to public universities,” said Kanshulu.

Speaking during the official handover, Central West Education Division Manager, Joseph Nkhata, hailed the intervention, emphasizing that access to quality learning resources remains a pressing challenge in many schools. “A library is the heart of any school — the backbone of education. This support will go a long way in nurturing Malawi’s human capital, which is essential for national development,” he remarked. Through partnerships like these, Moyo Ngwathu continues to prove that empowering minds is the most powerful investment in the future.
