To the bold, the brilliant, and the amazing!!

Happy International Day of the Girl Child! When we invest in girls, we change the world. When girls are supported and empowered, they step into every room with confidence and become an active part of the change. They question, reflect, learn, lead policy design, and drive real systemic progress.

Investing in her isn’t just the right thing to do it’s the key to a better future for everyone!

When young women are given the platform and the tools, they don’t just adapt to the future; they shape it!

This week, representatives from our Girls Creating Change Through Innovations cohort had the privilege of visiting Capitol Hill to connect with leadership at the Ministry of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare!
Representing thousands of adolescent girls and young women across Malawi, our team, supported by The Freedom Fund shared how youth-led innovation is turning advocacy into real action.

Through four key tracks, these young women are building creative and technological solutions to tackle gender-based violence and drive social change:
Visual Arts: Conceptual artwork exposing deep-rooted gender norms
Performing Arts: Advocacy theater and poetry sparking vital community dialogue.
Digital Media: Storytelling campaigns to amplify youth voices.
Tech Innovation: Digital tools and apps strengthening GBV reporting and support.

Innovation needs strong institutional partnerships to achieve lasting national impact. We are deeply grateful to the Ministry for welcoming our cohort, listening to our pitches, and opening up spaces for young women at the decision-making table. We are in particular excited to work alongside the ministry in using Art and Tech in addressing issues of GBV and accelerating efforts in promoting gender equality.
Together, we are bridging passion with action to create a safer, more equal future for every girl in Malawi!

MEET OUR INNOVATORS!!!!!

We’ve reached the final stop in our Meet Our Innovators series!

Over the past weeks, we’ve introduced young, creative minds who are using their talents, ideas, and passion to inspire change in their communities.
Today, we’re excited to introduce our final innovator

Miriam Banda

A female photographer and videographer focused on capturing authentic moments, emotions, and stories through photography. Her work covers events, weddings, graduations, portraits, fashion, lifestyle, corporate events, nature, wildlife, and adventure photography.

Through her photography, she aims to preserve meaningful memories and create images that tell a story. She enjoys exploring different environments, working with people, and bringing creativity and professionalism into every shoot.

Beyond capturing beautiful moments, she believes in using her creative voice to promote positive change, including raising awareness and contributing to efforts to end gender-based violence. Through visual storytelling, she hopes to inspire conversations, challenge harmful attitudes, and amplify messages that promote dignity, respect, and safer communities.

Elegant Pictures are more than photography to her. It is about capturing moments that people can look back on and remember, while using the power of visual storytelling to create meaningful impact.

MEET OUR INNOVATORS !!!!

Grace Maganga

A young Malawian woman and an Accountancy student with a passion for entrepreneurship, women’s empowerment and creating opportunities for girls.

Through the Innovators Program, she is being supported to develop her idea into something that can make a difference in the lives of girls and young women. My idea is skill Empowerment Project, which uses skills like tailoring, baking, nail-art training as a pathway to income-generating skills, entrepreneurship and financial independence.

She believes that when girls have practical skills and opportunities to earn an income, they can have greater confidence and make informed decisions about their lives. The project will also create a safe space where girls can talk about gender-based violence, relationships, their rights and the challenges they face.

"My efforts contribute to ending GBV by addressing one of the factors that can keep women in harmful relationships and economic dependence. By empowering girls with skills, knowledge and confidence, we can help them build independent futures and challenge harmful gender norms.

My voice matters because I believe change begins when we are willing to speak, learn and take action. I want to use my voice, my skills and my idea to help create a future where every girl has the opportunity to learn, earn, speak up and live free from violence"

MEET OUR INNOVATORS!!!!

Talandira Bisayi

She is an ICT graduate, poet, and young woman passionate about using her skills and voice to create positive change.

She joined the Foundation for Girls Leadership (F4GL) Innovators Programme with an interest in learning, connecting with other young women, and exploring how creativity, technology, and our voices can contribute to addressing gender-based violence and promoting gender equality.

"The program has given me a space to learn, express myself, and better understand how I can contribute to change in my own way. Through both technology and poetry, I believe our voices can educate, inspire, and spark conversations that matter.

My voice matters because I believe every girl deserves to be heard, valued, and empowered to speak up and be part of creating change"

MEET OUR INNOVATORS!!!

Chigomezgo Msumba

A 3rd-year Agricultural Economics student at LUANAR, a poet, youth advocate and innovator. She uses poetry as a tool to tell stories, challenge harmful beliefs and speak about issues that affect young people, especially girls and women.

For her, poetry is more than words. It is a way of starting conversations. Through her poems, she creates messages around gender equality, empowerment, climate justice, leadership and the power of young people to create change.

Her journey as an innovator has also taught her that change requires more than identifying a problem. We need to think differently, create solutions and take action. The Innovators Program is supporting her with knowledge, skills, confidence and a platform to turn her ideas into practical solutions that can create impact in her community.

Her work contributes to ending gender-based violence by using creativity and innovation to challenge gender norms, encourage girls to speak up and promote equality.

"Why does my voice matter? Because I know the power of one voice. A poem can make someone think. An idea can become an innovation. And one young person can inspire another to believe that change is possible.

I am still learning, still creating and still finding new ways to use my voice but I am determined to use it for something meaningful"
