On 31st March 2026, Graça Machel Trust and COMFWB Malawi held the Women Creating Wealth Forum and Certification at Ufulu Gardens in Lilongwe.

The event celebrated women entrepreneurs who completed a 10 month training under the Women Creating Wealth Programme. A total of 114 women graduated after finishing their training.

The forum included speeches, a presentation of survey results conducted by COMFWB Malawi in 2025 with support from Graça Machel Trust, and a panel discussion. There were also exhibitions where women showcased their businesses, and storytelling sessions where participants shared their business journeys and experiences from the programme.

The event was also attended by the CEO of COMESA Federation of Women in Business (COMFWB) and Korkor, Senior Entrepreneurship Manager from Graça Machel Trust.

On 10th March 2026, COMFWB Malawi Chapter joined COMESA Federation of Women in Business in commemorating International Women’s Day. The event was held at Lifestyle Boutique Hotel and aimed to celebrate women’s achievements during Women’s Month under the theme “Give to Gain.”

The event brought together regional leaders, policymakers, and women entrepreneurs. It began with welcoming remarks from the CEO of COMFWB, Chikakula Miti, who reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to promoting regional trade and the growth of small and medium enterprises. This was followed by remarks from the National Chairperson of the COMFWB Malawi Chapter, who reflected on the importance of integrating Malawian women entrepreneurs into the broader regional agenda.

Representatives from the Ministry of Trade and Ministry of Gender were also given the opportunity to address participants and highlight government initiatives aimed at promoting women entrepreneurship in Malawi.

The event concluded with a panel discussion on how to amplify the voices of women in regional trade. The panel featured representatives from the Ministry of Gender, the COMESA Competition Commission, a woman entrepreneur, and a representative from COMFWB.

Today, COMFWB Malawi together with National Association of Business Women held a meeting with the Minister of Industrialization, Business, Trade and Tourism. The purpose of the meeting was to present the finding and the recommendations of the survey that the organisation did on assessing the participation of women led business in public procurement.

The survey examined access to public procurement opportunities, identified barriers affecting women entrepreneurs and highlighted gaps in existing policies and implementation frameworks.

The organizations emphasized the need to revise the MSME Order of 2020 to clearly specify the proportion of the procurement allocations reserved for the marginalized population namely; women, youth and persons with disabilities)

The Minister welcomed the findings and recommendations and stated that his Ministry is open to taking action on them.

On 16th February 2026, Madam Selina Mwenelupembe and the program officers represented COMFWB Malawi Chapter at the official signing ceremony of the Simplified Trade Regime between Malawi and Tanzania. The event took place at BICC in Lilongwe. The Simplified Trade Regime is an initiative under the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) framework aimed at facilitating cross-border trade by simplifying customs procedures, reducing documentation requirements, and lowering the cost of doing business for small-scale and informal traders. The signing of this agreement marks a significant milestone in strengthening bilateral trade relations between Malawi and Tanzania and promoting inclusive regional economic integration.

COMFWB Malawi Chapter Showcases at the 1st Uganda–Malawi Business Forum and Exhibition

On Friday, 21st November 2025, the COMFWB Malawi Chapter members participated in the 1st Uganda–Malawi Business Forum and Exhibition held at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC). The event, organised by the Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC) in partnership with the Government of Uganda, was held under the theme “Exploring and Tapping into Rich Opportunities for Deeper Collaboration.”

The forum was graced by the Ambassador of Uganda to Malawi, His Excellency Fred Mwesigye, and provided a strategic platform for the two nations to strengthen their trade relations.

COMFWB Malawi Chapter members showcased a diverse range of products, including value-added agricultural goods, processed products and travel agency services. During the pavilion tour, the Ambassador visited the COMFWB Malawi booth, where he had the opportunity to appreciate the organisation efforts in scaling up women-owned businesses and promoting women’s economic empowerment.
