Accurate information.

We are talking about something that is often difficult to discuss in Malawi: abortion.

As CSE Defenders, we believe young people need accurate, age-appropriate and evidence-based information about s*xual and reproductive health.

Abortion is a healthcare issue. So are contraception, pregnancy care, post-abortion care and comprehensive s*xuality education.

We may not always agree on every aspect of the conversation, but we can agree on one thing: young people deserve information that helps them understand their health without shame or misinformation.

Better information. Better conversations. Health-centred choices.

As CSE Defenders, being part of this stakeholder engagement gives us an opportunity to bring our voices and experiences into conversations on Comprehensive S*xuality Education, SRHR and the ESA 2030 commitments.

We are learning, sharing our experiences, contributing to action planning and strengthening our role as young advocates for accurate, inclusive and accessible CSE.

We are not just part of the conversation we are helping shape the actions that affect young people.

Knowledge empowers young people.

Our CSE Defender, Clara Kampeni, participated in an Awareness and Orientation Session on HIV Prevention and the HIV and AIDS (Prevention and Management) Act, organized by the National AIDS Commission (NAC)

One important reminder: PrEP protects against HIV, but it does not protect against other STIs.

This is exactly why comprehensive s*xuality education is paramount for young people. Young people need accurate information to understand their s*xual and reproductive health, prevent HIV and STIs, challenge misinformation, and make informed decisions.

Through CSE, we can create a generation that is informed, empowered and confident to make healthy decisions.

This Friday, Podcast Malawi takes the conversation deeper into how limited access to Comprehensive S*xuality Education (CSE) is contributing to the growing use of s*x enhancement drugs among young people in Malawi.

The episode features Chimwemwe Chisale Youth Researcher, and Promise Chipeta CSE Defender, drawing on findings from a Youth Researchers Academy study conducted in Dedza Rural and Lilongwe Urban.

The discussion explores the role of limited access to accurate s*xuality information, myths and misconceptions, peer influence, cultural norms and easy access to s*x enhancement products.

It also highlights potential SRHR consequences and the need to strengthen CSE, promote informed decision-making and strengthen regulation of the sale and distribution of these products.
