NACRO COMPLETES AN EDUCATION AND HEALTH INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT IN MCHINJI DISTRICT

We are proud to announce the successful completion of NACRO’s Education and Health Infrastructure Project in Mchinji District, funded by our valued partner, New Apostolic Church Canada!

Through this investment, NACRO has constructed modern education and health facilities aimed at improving access to quality learning environments and essential healthcare services for vulnerable communities. The project represents a total investment of over MK 350 million, dedicated to strengthening community systems and improving the well-being of children and families.

The completed facilities are expected to directly benefit learners through improved classroom space and sanitation infrastructure, and mothers and children under five who will now access essential maternal and child health services closer to home. Indirectly, the project will positively impact the wider community by reducing travel distances to health facilities, improving school attendance, and enhancing overall community resilience.

The facilities will soon be officially launched and handed over to the community during a special ceremony bringing together Government officials, traditional leaders, church representatives, and community members.
This milestone reflects the power of partnership and our shared commitment to transforming lives through sustainable development. NACRO remains dedicated to ensuring that these facilities continue to serve present and future generations.

Stay tuned for updates on the official launch and handover ceremony!

EXIT DEC MEETING FOR MCHINJI WASH EXTENSION PROJECT UNDERWAY AT MCHINJI DISTRICT COUNCIL HALL

The Exit District Executive Committee (DEC) meeting for the Mchinji WASH Extension Project is underway today at the Mchinji District Council Hall, marking an important milestone, as NACRO presents the project’s achievements, challenges, and sustainability plans to key government departments and stakeholders.

The meeting highlights the remarkable progress made since the project began in December 2022 with support from NAK-Karitativ. Over the past three years, the initiative has improved access to clean and safe water for 11 communities in TA Mduwa, enhanced sanitation in five schools, strengthened 15 WASH committees, and established 8 vibrant Village Savings and Loans groups. These efforts have contributed to reduced waterborne diseases, increased school attendance especially for adolescent girls, and improved household income through savings and productive investments.

Stakeholders at the meeting are also reflecting on lessons learned, including the need for strengthened community capacity for major water-point maintenance, improved support for Community-Led Total Sanitation implementation, and deeper collaboration on water purification. The DEC’s guidance during this exit process is instrumental in ensuring that the gains made under the project continue to benefit communities long after the project’s closure on 30 November 2025.

NACRO LAUNCHES NEW BASIC EDUCATION PROJECT IN MCHINJI

New Apostolic Church Relief Organisation (NACRO) has officially launched a new Basic Education Project in Mchinji District, marking another milestone in its continued efforts to improve access to quality and inclusive education in Malawi. The three-year project, running from October 2025 to September 2028, is funded by Nak-karitativ of Germany with a total investment of EUR 350,000 (MWK 707 million). It targets three primary schools under Traditional Authority Mduwa: Kavumbwa, Chamwavi, and Kafulu, and aims to enhance learning environments, strengthen teaching quality, and empower communities to sustainably support education.

Speaking during the launch at the Mchinji District Executive Committee (DEC) meeting, Mr. Anthony Ngwira, NACRO’s Country Program Coordinator, emphasized that the project seeks to transform vulnerable schools into safe, gender-responsive, and inspiring learning spaces for children. He noted that despite Malawi’s strong commitment to education, rural schools continue to face serious challenges such as overcrowded classrooms, inadequate sanitation facilities, and limited access to safe water.

Through this project, NACRO will rehabilitate classroom blocks and construct modern toilets with girls’ changing rooms, drill boreholes to provide clean water, and plant 3,000 trees to promote greener and climate-resilient schools. Teachers will be trained in Active Teaching and Learning (ATL), Life Skills, and Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE), while school governance structures, including Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs), School Management Committees (SMCs), and Mother Support Groups (MSGs), will be strengthened to ensure better leadership and accountability.

The project will also empower 75 households through the formation of Village Savings and Loan (VSL) groups, helping parents and guardians to improve their incomes and continue supporting their children’s education. These interventions are expected to reduce absenteeism and dropout rates, particularly among girls, while improving academic performance and community involvement in education.

The Mchinji Basic Education Project aligns with the Mchinji District Development Plan (2023–2030), the National Education Policy (2016), Malawi Vision 2063, and Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education). By complementing government efforts, NACRO is providing a scalable and sustainable model for improving education outcomes in marginalized rural communities across Malawi.

NACRO HOLDS 2025 REVIEW AND 2026 PLANNING WORKSHOP IN NTCHEU

New Apostolic Church Relief Organization (NACRO) has commenced its 2025 Review and 2026 Planning Workshop at West Hill Lodge in Ntcheu. The workshop, which runs from 27th to 31st October 2025, has brought together staff from all country and field offices, Early Childhood Care and Development Centres (ECCDCs), as well as representatives from the Regional Advisory Committees (RACs).

The purpose of the workshop is to review NACRO’s 2025 performance and strategically plan for 2026 in line with the organization’s 2024–2028 Strategic Plan. Participants are reflecting on the achievements, challenges, and lessons learned from the past year, and are developing key priorities, objectives, and activities for the coming year. The workshop also includes sessions on the review of NACRO’s constitution and policies, a SWOT analysis, and the development of the 2026 work plan and budget.

In his opening remarks, the Country Programme Coordinator, Mr. Anthony Ngwira, emphasized the importance of evidence-based planning, collaboration, and shared commitment to NACRO’s mission of improving community resilience and livelihoods. He highlighted that the review process provides an opportunity for collective reflection and innovation, ensuring that NACRO continues to deliver impactful and sustainable development interventions.

As part of the workshop, participants will undertake a field visit to the Mtendere Irrigation Project in Ntcheu to appreciate NACRO’s impact at the community level. The visit is expected to provide practical insights that will inform the design and implementation of future programmes.

Speaking during one of the opening sessions, Mr. Ngwira remarked, “Our progress as an organization depends on how well we learn from our experiences and use those lessons to plan ahead. This workshop is not just about setting targets: it’s about aligning our efforts, strengthening teamwork, and renewing our commitment to the communities we serve.”

The outcomes of the 2025 Review and 2026 Planning Workshop will inform NACRO’s Country Plan and Budget for 2026, which will later be presented to the Country Board of Directors for approval in November.
