EMPOWERING TADZUKA NANAZI COOPERATIVE IN MULANJE.

On 8th May 2026, The Joyce Banda Foundation International trained members of Tadzuka Nanazi Cooperative in Mulanje southen part of Malawi.

The cooperative grows pineapples and tea and is expanding into value addition to create more income.

Members were trained in following skills.
Pineapple and banana wine making.
Soap, lotion and vaseline production.
Cooking oil processing, Organic manure formulation and other entrepreneurship skills.

The focus of the initiative is to reduce post-harvest losses, increase product value and build climate resilience through tree planting, backyard gardens and climate-smart farming. Members also highlighted the need for market linkages to sell their pineapples sustainably to maximise their profits.
Together we will build sustainable, resilient and progressive communities.

EMPOWERING WOMEN WITH SKILLS FOR SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOODS IN NORTHERN MALAWI.

On 29–30 April 2026, The Joyce Banda Foundation International delivered hands-on training sessions in Mzimba District (Edingeni – Mberwa Cooperative) and Mzuzu (Katoto), equipping women with practical, income-generating skills. Participants learned soap making, lotion and detergent production, chicken feed formulation, cooking oil processing, organic manure and sugar production, and recycling plastic into useful products. Each session focused on simple, applicable skills that women can use at home to start small businesses and improve household welfare.

The trainings aim to promote economic independence, entrepreneurship, and food security by helping women add value to locally available resources and diversify their income sources. By building these skills, women are better positioned to support their families, contribute to local economic growth, and strengthen community resilience in the face of changing economic conditions.

Beyond livelihoods, the program emphasized environmental stewardship and climate-smart practices. Participants were encouraged to plant trees, establish backyard gardens, and adopt sustainable agriculture methods to improve food security and protect natural resources.

The Joyce Banda Foundation International remains committed to expanding such initiatives across Malawi to empower more women and drive lasting community development.

It's that time of the season again! Chilli farmers are smiling as they prepare to earn money from their harvest, providing much-needed financial relief during these challenging times.

MWAI/ OSISA value adding training of trainer of trainers in Mangochi District
In which 30 trainer of trainers were trained how to make Dish Paste, Petroleum Jelly, Body Lotion, Sugar, Cooking oil from groundnuts, Laundry tablet soap, Washing Powder Soap, and soya pieces.

This training will help our members to be self reliance by producing these items in their various groups as one way of promoting their livelihood in doing businesses and sustaining their families.

Her Excellency Dr Joyce Banda, Former President of the Republic of Malawi, and Founder of Joyce Banda Foundation International graced the occasion together with Chief Justice Richard Banda (RTD) and The Executive Director for Joyce Banda Foundation Madam Edith Akridge.

The Joyce Banda Foundation International (JBFI) Market Women Activities and Initiatives (MWAI) is making a positive impact in Malawi through the Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa (OSISA) Project . We're thrilled to announce that both men and women are receiving training in manufacturing skills, empowering them for a brighter future. 🌟

Last week, we conducted an inspiring training session in the Northern Region. A total of 39 participants attended and received training in various essential areas. Here's a glimpse of what they learned:

These trainings will pave the way for the creation of cooperatives, providing opportunities for women to become economically empowered. 💪

By offering these training programs, The Patron, Her Excellency Dr. Joyce Banda, the former President of Malawi, aims to enhance the overall well-being of Malawians and help the youth and women thrive economically. 🌍🌱📚

📢 MWAI is implementing a project on behalf of Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa called "Women mitigating effects of climate change through skills development" in 8 districts of Malawi: Chitipa, Karonga, Mzimba, Kasungu, Lilongwe, Mchinji, Mangochi, and Zomba.

🌍 Climate change has caused financial challenges in Malawi, but MWAI is taking action! We recently conducted a Trainer Of Trainers (TOT) training in Lilongwe, where 24 TOTs were equipped with manufacturing skills such as soap making, cooking oil, chicken feed, and more!

👩‍🏭 These TOTs will go on to train their fellow MWAI members in their respective communities, and together they will start cooperative businesses to mitigate the effects of climate change.

👏 We're proud to be a part of this project and can't wait to see the positive impact it has on the communities in Malawi. Stay tuned for more updates!
