Today marks an important milestone in strengthening access to justice in Malawi!

Funded by the European Union in Malawi and UNICEF Malawi, PASI has successfully concluded the training of paralegals under the 44-month Access to Justice Project implemented under the Chilungamo II Programme.

The training has equipped paralegals with the knowledge, practical skills, and tools needed to provide quality legal aid services, promote legal awareness, and facilitate access to justice for vulnerable and marginalized communities.

Talking to the Paralegals, the National Director for PASI, Mr Clifford Msiska, emphasized the importance of evidence-based programming.

"You, the Paralegals are now equipped not only as frontline justice service providers but also as data collectors, record keepers, and evidence generators who will contribute to measuring results, improving service quality, and informing future interventions".

As they return to their respective communities, these paralegals will play a critical role in Raising legal awareness among citizens, Providing legal advice and referrals, Supporting alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, Promoting the protection of human rights, and Collecting quality data that demonstrates the impact of access to justice interventions.

This marks the beginning of an exciting implementation phase where knowledge will be translated into action, and evidence will demonstrate the difference that community-based legal empowerment can make to the poor and marginalized individuals in conflict with the law.
