๐ŸŒYoung people from across Africa came together for a powerful conversation on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and the future of Africaโ€™s demographic dividend.

One message stood out clearly: Africaโ€™s young population is not a challenge โ€” it is an opportunity. As Hon. Moumouni Dialla, President of the Pan African Youth Union (PYU), shared during the discussion, โ€œAfricaโ€™s young population is not a problem for the continent; it should be considered a tool for success.โ€

Speakers highlighted that unlocking this opportunity requires investment in young peopleโ€™s health, education, dignity and leadership. Opening the session, the AUDA-NEPAD Director reminded participants that โ€œSRH is dignity, opportunity and empowerment.โ€ At the same time, SAYoF CEO Misheck Gondo stressed that โ€œyouth leadership is not a right, it is essential.โ€

The webinar also explored the realities many young people continue to face across the continent, including stigma, poverty, child marriage, misinformation and limited access to youth-friendly SRHR services, especially in rural communities.

SAT Regional Policy Officer Levi Singh called for stronger continental coordination and political commitment around the demographic dividend agenda, stating, โ€œWe donโ€™t need a slogan around the demographic dividend. We need coordinated leadership.โ€

As discussions continue with policymakers next week, the recommendations and lived experiences shared by young leaders during this webinar will help shape future continental dialogue and action on SRHR and the demographic dividend.

Africaโ€™s future will be shaped by empowered, informed and healthy young people โ€” and the time to invest in them is now!

Today is International Workersโ€™ Day ๐Ÿ’ผ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โš•๏ธ

Itโ€™s more than just a public holiday, itโ€™s a reminder that the working world we know today didnโ€™t just happen. Back in 1886, workers in Chicago stood up and demanded fairer hours, pushing for the 8-hour workday instead of exhausting 17-hour shifts. That fight shaped the rights many people benefit from today.

For us young people, this day is also about thinking ahead, the kind of work we want, the conditions we deserve, and the future weโ€™re building. Itโ€™s also a moment to recognise how women continue to break barriers across spaces like education, health, business and leadership, showing that progress is possible when opportunities are equal.

So while we celebrate, we also reflect. Fair work, equal pay, safe environments. These are our rights, and they are worth protecting and pushing forward.

Happy International Workersโ€™ Day ๐ŸŒโœŠ๐Ÿฝ

But itโ€™s also a reminder that the journey to equality isnโ€™t finished yet โ€” especially for young girls.

Across Africa, millions of girls still face barriers to education, safety and opportunities, and nearly 1 in 3 girls will experience violence in their lifetime. Too many are judged for their choices, pushed out of school by pregnancy, or told their dreams are โ€œtoo big.โ€

This yearโ€™s theme reminds us that real change starts with how we treat each other every day. Supporting girls means sharing the right information, refusing to shame someone for asking about contraception, standing up against sexism, and cheering your friends on when they chase their goals.

Because when girls gain confidence, knowledge and support, they donโ€™t just change their own futures โ€” they help change the world.

Letโ€™s build a future where every girl feels safe, respected and unstoppable.
