March higlight

Last month, we had the honor of participating in a powerful discussion where we shared ideas and stood in unity with our sisters from across Africa.

Our representative, Wilma Chienda, joined the conversation in Kenya, while several women who were unable to attend in person participated virtually.

The speakers emphasized the importance of solidarity and encouraged us to create platforms that amplify our true purpose even further. They also called on young women to take charge and step into leadership.

“We shouldn’t backslide—we must rise as young leaders and build stronger ecosystems.”

Dear Colleagues,

Warm greetings from the African Women Leaders Forum (AWLF).

As the 70th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) convenes globally, we invite you to join a hybrid dialogue hosted by AWLF in Nairobi that brings together feminist leaders, organisers, policymakers, and movement actors to reflect on the current global moment and the future of feminist organising.

Please see the event poster attached.

The conversation comes at a time when many parts of the world are experiencing shrinking civic space, democratic backsliding, restrictive policies affecting movement actors, and ongoing conflicts affecting communities across Africa and beyond.

Under the theme:

Rethinking Feminist Ecosystems for Social Justice, this convening will create space for reflection on how feminist movements can strengthen leadership, solidarity, and collective action when facing these challenges.

True leadership isn’t about control it’s about character. It’s about showing up with integrity when no one’s watching, making the hard calls when it’s inconvenient, and holding the vision when others lose sight of it.

Here @ AreTemalawi, we believe leadership starts within. Before you lead others, you master yourself. Every decision, every conversation, every setback is a chance to lead better, bolder, and with purpose.

Lead with courage.
Act with principle.
Pursue excellence daily.

This is what ARETE looks like. 🧭

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at ARETE

To every mother | in every form | today is for you.

Your strength shapes lives. Your care builds futures. Whether you’re leading at home, at work, in the community, or all at once, the love and resilience you give the world don’t go unnoticed.

At AreTemalawi, we recognize and celebrate the countless ways you show up for your families, for others, and for yourself.

Thank you for being the heart of so many stories.

With admiration and gratitude,

Happy Mother’s Day.

To every young woman out there in the towns, the villages, the cities we see you, we believe in you, and we want to remind you of this: your value is not in what the world says, but in who you truly are.

In a world that often pushes pressure, shortcuts, and temporary attention, we encourage you to choose a different path one of dignity, discipline, and purpose. Protect your name. Protect your future. You don’t have to follow every trend or give in to every distraction to feel important. Real power comes from knowing who you are and walking in that truth with confidence and grace.

At ARETE, we stand for young women who rise above peer pressure, who reject unethical behavior, and who choose to grow, learn, and lead with integrity. Let your story be one of strength, not shortcuts. Let your light shine through your actions, not through compromise.

You are the future of Malawi. You are the future of Africa. You are leaders in the making and the world needs women like you.

With love,

AreTemalawi
