Lusubilo Community Care has launched its 2026–2030 Strategic Plan, setting out a renewed direction for the organisation as it seeks to respond more effectively to the changing needs of vulnerable people in the communities.

Speaking during the launch, Bishop of Karonga Diocese Rt. Rev. Martin Mtumbuka commended Lusubilo for developing the new Strategic Plan and encouraged the organisation to strengthen its collaboration with local leaders and communities to ensure that its interventions respond to the priorities of the people they serve.

Marriage life was once difficult for Edson Simkonda and his wife, Christina Kayira, from Navitengo under Traditional Authority Kameme in Chitipa District. The couple faced challenges in communication, family budgeting and resolving disagreements. At times, conflicts in the home became serious, with Christina leaving the house and returning to her family.

Today, their story is different. For Ronald Mughogho from Chisenga in Traditional Authority Mwenewenya, Chitipa District, farming has become more than just a way of feeding his family. It has grown into a business that is helping him earn an income, improve his family’s living conditions and build a better future.

Before joining Lusubilo’s IOVCY Project, Ronald was already involved in farming but lacked the knowledge and resources to manage it as a business. Through the IOVCY project, implemented by Lusubilo Community Care with financial support from the Coppell Family and technical assistance from Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Ronald received business training, consumption support and business capital.

He invested the support in garden farming, producing fresh maize, cabbage, tomatoes, onions and other vegetables for sale in Chitipa, Karonga and, at times, Zambia.

As his farming business grew, Ronald decided to diversify his sources of income by buying a motorcycle for Kabaza business. The income from both farming and Kabaza business helped him build a house for his family. Determined to grow further, the family later sold the motorcycle and invested the money, together with their savings, they bought a car. SMART COUPLE LESSONS BRING NEW HOPE TO THE MULAGHA FAMILY IN KARONGA

What was once a home marked by conflict, poor communication and misunderstandings has now become a more peaceful and united family. For Steve Mulagha and his wife from Fashion Village in Karonga District, things have changed greatly since they started taking part in SMART Couple lessons under the Gender and Child Protection Project, implemented by Lusubilo Community Care with financial support from Catholic Relief Services (CRS).

Through the lessons, the couple has learned how to communicate better, understand each other and work together when making family decisions.

LUSUBILO SUPPORTS 12 YOUTH CLUBS WITH MK1.3 MILLION GRANTS

Lusubilo Community Care has provided MK1.3 million to each of 12 youth clubs in Karonga, Chitipa and Rumphi Districts to support youth-led income-generating activities and strengthen the sustainability of the clubs.

The grants were provided to six youth clubs in Chitipa, four in Karonga and two in Rumphi. Through this support, the youth clubs have ventured into various businesses, including fish farming, chicken farming, farm produce vending and other income-generating activities.

Through these investments, the youth clubs are being empowered to generate income, become more self-reliant and build sustainable livelihoods while contributing to the development of their communities.

The support is part of Lusubilo Community Care’s interventions under the IOVCY Project, implemented with financial support from the Coppell Family and technical assistance from Catholic Relief Services (CRS).

Lusubilo Community Care commemorated the life and legacy of its founder, the late Sr. Beatrice Chipeta, with a Memorial Mass held on Friday 7th August 2026, to honour her dedication to serving vulnerable communities.

The Memorial Mass brought together Lusubilo Community Care and Diocese of Karonga staff members and Sr. Beatrice Chipeta’s family members to remember her life, celebrate her contribution and reflect on the values that continue to guide Lusubilo’s work.
