On one of our volunteer trips, we met the then Minister of Education, Dr. William Sisiwere Banda. Today, we are proud to share that since 6 January 2025, the school is fully operational under the care of the Government of Malawi, with teachers in place and children learning.

Thank you to everyone who believes in our dream. The journey continues, and our next step will be announced soon.

As we eagerly anticipate the official opening of Likuchi Primary School on January 4, 2025, we are delighted to announce a significant development. The school, constructed by the BM Foundation, has garnered the attention and support of the Government of Malawi. In response, the government has committed to adding another classroom block, bringing the total to three blocks, each comprising two classrooms. This will enable the school to offer classes from Grade 1 to Grade 6, leaving only one additional block required to complete the institution as a full primary school.

We are confident that this collaboration will greatly enhance the educational opportunities for the Likuchi community, fostering growth and development. We remain optimistic about achieving our goal of transforming Likuchi Primary School into a fully-fledged primary institution in the near future Banonie Mwale Foundation The Maravi Heritage Foundation - MHF Ministry of Education - Malawi Malawi News

Dear Team BMF,

I am delighted to share some incredible news with you. After enduring a long journey of dedication and effort through the Banonie Mwale Foundation, the Government of Malawi, specifically the Nkhota-Kota District Council's Education Department under the leadership of the Education CEO and DEMO, has approved the opening of a new primary school in Likuchi Village—a community that has been without a school for generations.

The school is scheduled to open on 4th January 2025, with three teachers appointed as part of the first phase. The government has also provided teachers’ textbooks to facilitate the school’s operations. They have committed to fully managing the school, while our role will focus on supporting additional initiatives such as constructing two extra classroom blocks and an office, should the need arise.

I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has contributed to this milestone. Your support has been invaluable, and I look forward to your continued assistance as we move forward in this transformative journey.

Warm regards,
Banonie Olad Mwale

Recently, there has been progress in our Likuchi community with the installation of electricity poles. We are grateful that the government has provided one pole for our school. This would have cost us a significant amount of money if we had done it ourselves. We are thankful for this development.
