✨ Empowering Refugee Girls to Lead, Dream, and Thrive ✨

At Soferes, we are proud to witness the life-changing impact of our Global Club Project, funded by Global Girls Glow.

Through this initiative, refugee girls in Dzaleka Refugee Camp are receiving mentorship, leadership guidance, life skills, and safe spaces to grow in confidence and resilience. 🌍💙

The project is helping girls to:
✔️ Build self-confidence and leadership skills
✔️ Strengthen communication and teamwork abilities
✔️ Access mentorship and peer support
✔️ Learn about girls’ rights, safeguarding, and protection
✔️ Stay motivated in education and personal development
✔️ Become positive voices and changemakers in their communities

Many refugee girls face barriers linked to displacement, poverty, discrimination, limited opportunities, and protection risks. Through mentorship and empowerment, we are helping girls believe in their potential and shape brighter futures for themselves and their communities.

We sincerely thank Global Girls Glow for supporting refugee girls and investing in their leadership, wellbeing, and future.

Together, we are nurturing the next generation of confident, resilient, and empowered young women leaders. 💫

What an inspiring message! 🌟 Mentoring girls to become confident leaders is crucial in empowering them to advocate for themselves and their communities. By fostering social-emotional skills like self-awareness and decision-making, we’re not just helping them recognize their own potential, but also equipping them to challenge injustices and drive positive change. Safe spaces and trusted mentors make all the difference in this journey. Let's continue to support and uplift the next generation of female leaders! 💪✨

Running a small business is more than earning income—it is about dignity, independence, and building a better future 💙

For many women in Dzaleka Refugee Camp, entrepreneurship is a powerful pathway to overcome unemployment, support their families, and regain control over their lives.

At SOFERES, we are making this possible by supporting women through:
✔ Practical business training
✔ Seed capital to start small enterprises
✔ Ongoing coaching and mentorship
✔ Market linkages to sustain and grow businesses

The impact is clear:
Women are launching businesses, increasing their incomes, improving food security, and becoming more confident and independent.

When women succeed in business, entire communities benefit.

At SOFERES, we believe that addressing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) requires strong collaboration and community ownership.

Through our recent stakeholder coordination meeting on GBV prevention and response in Dzaleka Refugee Camp, we brought together community leaders, service providers, and key partners to strengthen coordination, improve referral pathways, and promote survivor-centered support.

These discussions are already making a difference. We are seeing stronger collaboration among stakeholders, increased awareness within the community, and improved access to essential services for women and girls.

Together, we are building a safer and more supportive environment where women and girls can live with dignity, participate freely, and thrive.

At SOFERES, we believe every girl deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and lead. Through our mentorship program, refugee girls in Dzaleka are gaining more than knowledge — they are building confidence, resilience, and a vision for their future.

💬 “Before the program, I was shy and unsure of myself. Now, I can speak in public and I believe in my dreams.” — Program Participant

Our mentorship initiative provides guidance, life skills, leadership training, and a safe space for girls to express themselves and learn from positive role models.

📊 Impact so far:
✔ Increased confidence and self-esteem
✔ Improved school engagement and participation
✔ Strengthened leadership and communication skills
✔ Greater awareness of rights and opportunities

Together, we are nurturing a generation of empowered girls ready to shape their communities and their futures.

🌿 From Hardship to Leadership: Mapendo Therese’s Inspiring Journey

Mapendo Therese, a 55-year-old refugee widow from the Democratic Republic of Congo living in Dzaleka Refugee Camp, is a mother of six children whose life has been marked by resilience and determination. Before joining the project, Therese faced extremely difficult circumstances. After losing her husband, she struggled to provide enough food for her family. With limited knowledge of modern farming practices, poor soil fertility, and frequent crop losses, her small garden could not meet her household needs. Many days, her family survived on reduced meals, and she relied heavily on humanitarian assistance. The uncertainty of feeding her children weighed heavily on her.

Recognizing her commitment to improving her household income through farming, Therese was selected to participate in the project funded by One Day's Wages. Through the initiative, she received training in climate-smart agriculture, improved soil management, and post-harvest handling techniques. She learned how to diversify crops, improve soil fertility, and reduce losses after harvest.

Today, Therese is producing higher-quality vegetables and beans and is able to sell surplus produce in local markets. The income generated contributes significantly to her family’s food security and basic needs. Beyond improving her household situation, Therese has grown into a community leader. She now serves as the Chairperson of a farming cooperative established by the project, where she supports other women, coordinates collective activities, and promotes shared learning.

Therese’s transformation from vulnerability to leadership demonstrates the powerful impact of empowering refugee women with skills, knowledge, and opportunity.

Today we proudly celebrate International Women’s Day 🌸

This day reminds us to honor the strength, resilience, and achievements of women and girls in our communities and around the world. Women continue to lead, nurture families, build businesses, and drive positive change even in the face of many challenges.

Let us take this moment to recognize the incredible contributions of mothers, daughters, sisters, leaders, entrepreneurs, and young girls who inspire hope for a better future. Their courage and determination are shaping stronger communities and a more equal world.

As we celebrate today, let us also renew our commitment to promoting gender equality, empowering women and girls, and creating opportunities where every woman can thrive and reach her full potential.

Together, we can build a future where every woman and girl is valued, respected, and empowered. 💜

Happy International Women’s Day!
