Happy International Youth Day!

Young people may have different lives, experiences and realities, but many of us share the same aspirations: to stay healthy, pursue our goals and build the future we envision.

In HIV prevention, recognising these different contexts means recognising that one approach does not fit everyone. Young people need information, access and choices that fit their different lives.

Because our contexts may be different, but our aspiration to live healthy, empowered lives is common.

GEM oriented Health Care Workers on CHOICE centred Approach

GEM, in collaboration with Blantyre DHO, today conducted an orientation for healthcare workers on choice-centred delivery approach to HIV prevention services, with a focus on available PrEP options, administration, dosing directions, drug interactions and supporting clients to make informed decisions about their preferred prevention method.

Our Executive Director, Ulanda Mtamba, also led presentations on GEM’s advocacy and community outreach work and the CHOICE Centred approach to PreP delivery. The session also included a plenary discussion to build consensus on PrEP messaging and strengthen demand creation for all forms of PrEP in communities.

Speaking on behalf of the District Health and Sanitation Services, Dr. Hawa Mtitimila commended GEM for the timely training and capacity building, highlighting the importance of empowering communities to make informed decisions about their PrEP choices.

HIV prevention is not one-size-fits-all. Choice matters.

When women have access to accurate HIV prevention information, they’re better equipped to make informed decisions for themselves and those around them.
Our advocate Tiyamike spent time with the Mvano Women’s Group at M’bawa CCAP, creating space for conversations on HIV prevention and the importance of knowing the options available.
