As we close the 16 Days of Activism, one thing is clear, the work does not end today.

GBV is not a campaign.
It is a reality many women and girls fight every single day, online and offline.

So today, we honour every survivor.
We honour every voice that spoke up.
Every story shared.
Every girl who refused to be silenced.
Every woman who continues to rise, even when it hurts.

For us at EQUANET, this is just the beginning.
We will keep pushing for safer digital spaces, stronger reporting systems, and a world where women can exist online without fear.

16 days end today but our commitment does not.

Did you know that AI is increasingly being used to facilitate violence against women?
AI-generated abuse including deepfakes, manipulated images, harassment, and misinformation.

This is causing real psychological, social, and economic harm.

The anonymity and scale of digital platforms make this violence easier to commit and harder to address, while legal systems struggle to keep pace with emerging technologies.

At night, the internet feels quiet, but not for everyone.
Some women are still blocking threats, deleting insults, or recovering from the fear a single message can bring.

Tonight, we remember, online violence doesn’t sleep.
And neither does our fight to make digital spaces safer.

Did you know?
More than 1 in 3 women have experienced some form of online abuse...from unwanted messages to threats, deepfakes & non-consensual photo sharing.
Education is the first step toward prevention.
Let’s build safer digital spaces for women and girls.

Sometimes the violence we face isn’t loud.
It doesn’t leave bruises.
It hides in our phones...in the messages we don’t talk about, the comments that sting, the photos shared without permission.

Women carry so much in silence.

Today, I just want to remind someone out there:
You’re not overreacting. What happened to you matters. And you deserve safety, online and offline.

MYTH vs FACT — Online Gender-Based Violence (OGBV)

MYTH: “It’s just online. It’s not real violence.”
FACT: Online abuse causes real fear, real harm, and real consequences...emotionally, socially, and even offline.

MYTH: “Women should just ignore it.”
FACT: Ignoring abuse does not stop it. We need safer platforms, stronger reporting mechanisms, and accountability.

MYTH: “Only celebrities or influencers face OGBV.”
FACT: Everyday women and girls in Malawi and across the world face harassment, threats, non-consensual image sharing, and cyber-stalking.

At EQUANET, we fight misinformation with truth.
We fight silence with awareness.
We fight OGBV with education and community.

This morning, a gentle reminder:

Screens should empower us...not expose us to harm.

Too many women and girls wake up to cyberbullying, threats, stolen photos, & harassment disguised as “jokes.”

At EQUANET, we believe every digital space should be safe, fair & protective of women & girls.
Online violence is real & it must be named.

As we begin the 16 Days of Activism, EQUANET is stepping into the conversation with something many people don’t talk about enough, tech-facilitated & online GBV.

In this digital world, violence doesn’t only happen in physical spaces anymore. It can happen in our chats, our inboxes, our timelines…even right on our phones. And for many women & girls, izi ndi zomwe tikukumana nazo every day.

So this space is here for real talk, learning & action.
Real honest conversations on how we can stay safer online, support each other & challenge harmful behaviour before it becomes abuse.

Welcome to EQUANET.
Let’s use these 16 Days to switch on awareness, speak up & stand together...offline and online.
