The Society for Friends of Environment and Technology (SOFET) recently had the incredible opportunity to visit the Waste Advisers workshops in Chigumula and what an eye-opening and inspiring experience it was๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ’š

From the moment we arrived, we were immersed in practical, hands-on approaches to sustainable waste management. The visit was not just educational, but truly transformative, as we explored innovative ways of turning waste into valuable resources๐Ÿ”„.

One of the highlights was learning about plastic recycling, where discarded materials are given a second life through creative processing. Seeing waste transformed into useful products reminded us that what we often throw away still holds great potential.

Equally fascinating was the process of biochar production a powerful technique that converts organic waste into a carbon-rich material that can improve soil fertility while helping to combat climate change. This demonstrated how environmental solutions can also support agriculture and sustainable livelihoods.

Beyond the technical knowledge, the visit emphasized the importance of community involvement, innovation, and responsibility in addressing environmental challenges. It showed us that effective waste management is not just about disposal, but about rethinking waste as a resource and embracing sustainable practices in our daily lives.

As SOFET members, we left Chigumula inspired, empowered, and more committed than ever to promoting environmental awareness and sustainable technology within our communities. This experience has strengthened our vision of a cleaner, greener future and reminded us that change begins with knowledge, action, and collaboration.

๐Ÿ’š Together, letโ€™s turn waste into opportunity and build a sustainable future for all. ๐ŸŒฑ

It was very encouraging to have our own Alumni joining us ๐Ÿซ€๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ’ฏ

On 21st February 2026, Waste Advisers had the privilege of engaging first-year students of the Society for Friends of Environment and Technology (SOFET) at Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences- MUBAS.

Our Project Manager, Mr. Khumbo Butao, and Project Officer, Mr. David Zintambila, shared practical insights on environmental leadership, innovation, and the realities of building sustainable systems beyond the classroom.

We also introduced our project, Plastic Waste Recycling Supply Chain Development in Malawi, which aims to reduce plastic pollution and strengthen circular economy systems in Blantyre through inclusive, market-driven recycling solutions. The project will actively engage schools and communities to drive measurable impact.

The students responded with energy, curiosity, and readiness to collaborate.

Partnerships with young professionals are not optional. They are strategic. Building a sustainable future requires informed, engaged, and action-oriented leaders and that journey starts now.

SOFET proudly brings together students from Industrial and Environmental Physics, Environmental Management and Technology, and Food Science and Technology united by a shared passion for sustainability and innovation.

The goal of the gathering was to introduce our core objectives, mission and vision to the freshers and to spark excitement about their journey with us.
๐Ÿ’ก Our Motto is Innovate, Conserve, Sustain and slogan is Think Green, Act Clean

We were deeply honored to have inspiring guest speakers who motivated and educated us:
