🚴‍♂️ MEET THE CHAMPION: STEWART KAMBEWA – “STEWART THE CYCLIST” 🌍

The Malawi Environmental Endowment Trust (MEET) is proud to introduce the official Champion for the Cycle for the Environment 2026 – the passionate, resilient, and inspiring Stewart Kambewa, popularly known as “Stewart the Cyclist.”

Stewart is not just riding a bicycle – he is riding for a cause. A cause for our forests, our climate, our communities, and our future.

On 6th June 2026, Stewart will lead an extraordinary 78km cycling journey from Blantyre (Mibawa Filling Station) to Mulanje (Golf Club) to raise awareness and mobilize support for the restoration and protection of Michiru Mountain, while commemorating this year’s World Environment Day.

🌱 Together, we ride for:
✔ Climate Action
✔ Forest Restoration
✔ Youth & Community Engagement
✔ A Sustainable Malawi

This is more than a sporting event. It is a national call to action. A movement for environmental stewardship. A ride for generations to come.

WASTE Advisers / GEMS, with funding from the Malawi Environmental Endowment Trust, is implementing the “Building a Circular Market: A Sustainable Model for the Future” project at Nsungwi Market in Lilongwe City.

This innovative initiative aims to transform how markets manage waste and resources by establishing a model market that embraces circular economy principles and promotes sustainable waste management practices. The project focuses on strengthening the capacity of women and youth in the informal sector through composting and waste recovery technologies, improving hygiene and sanitation within the market, and enhancing solid waste management governance systems.

It will directly benefit Lilongwe City Council, informal waste recovery actors, market traders and customers, residents of Area 25, compost producers, and smallholder farmers who will access improved organic compost. By shifting from the traditional “take-use-dispose” model to a circular approach, the project promotes waste reduction, resource recovery, and environmental sustainability, paving the way for greener and cleaner markets
