"Pride is not a celebration we borrow from elsewhere, it is a truth we have always carried, even when the world demanded we carry it quietly."

This Pride Month, Woven Agenda Foundation honours the LBQ women and gender-diverse people across Malawi who continue to exist, love, and organise in the face of erasure. For us, visibility is not indulgence but a protest, survival, memory, and resistance woven into one.

To every person who has had to fold themselves smaller to stay safe: we see you. To every person choosing, even quietly, to take up space anyway: we stand with you.

Pride is the refusal to be erased.

🌍 reminds us that liberation is unfinished work. ✊🏾

Across the continent, women and feminist movements continue resisting the structural violence embedded in political, economic, legal, and social systems. 👩🏿‍🤝‍👩🏽

On the 21st of May, we hosted Focus Group Discussions in Blantyre as part of our community-led assessment — a participatory approach that centers community voices, lived experiences, and local perspectives in identifying challenges and shaping sustainable solutions.

The discussions were engaging, insightful, and therapeutic, with participants actively contributing meaningful and well-structured perspectives around mental health and social wellbeing. The session also generated community-driven recommendations grounded in inclusion, care, and collective healing.

🏳️‍⚧️ IDAHOBIT 2026 🏳️‍⚧️– “At the Heart of Democracy”

Today we join the world in commemorating the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT).

This year’s theme, “At the Heart of Democracy,” is a reminder that democracy should protect, include and represent everyone regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or expression.

A just and democratic society is one where every person can live freely, safely and proudly without fear of discrimination or violence.

LGBTQIA+ voices matter and inclusion doesn’t have to be optional; it is essential.

Now as we mark this day, we continue to stand for equality, dignity and a future where no one is left behind.

Democracy is strongest when everyone belongs.

Yesterday, we welcomed visitors from Mudzi Connect to our community for a day of learning, sharing and reflection.

Together, we had open and honest conversations about our "Thriving Circles" initiative, from basket weaving to irrigation farming and the real experiences of the women at the heart of our work.

We truly value moments like this where ideas are exchanged, perspectives are challenged and we are encouraged to think bigger while staying grounded in our mission.

Thank you to the Mudzi Connect team for your time, insights and encouragement as we continue this journey.

This World Day for and at Work, we highlight the importance of creating healthy psychosocial work environments for .

We know well that a safe workplace goes beyond physical safety. A safe workplace includes mental and emotional well-being.

A lot of experience challenges at work such as sexual harassment, bullying, unfair treatment, high job demands, lack of support and limited recognition. These conditions not only affect performance but also harm well-being.

As this year’s theme focuses on ensuring a healthy psychosocial working environment for all, it is time to build workplaces where feel safe, respected and supported every day.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. At Woven Agenda Foundation , we are taking this moment to reflect on the realities of sexual violence and the systems that allow it to persist. For women, children, and LGBTI communities, violence often exists in ways that are normalized, silenced, or reframed as care, correction, or culture.

We feel privileged to have contributed in small ways to the healing journey of survivors of sexual violence through our Thrive Women Circles, where we support survivor-led initiatives towards financial independence and skills building. We hold space for LBQ women to share, process, and make meaning of lived experiences in environments grounded in care, dignity, and collective solidarity through our supported safe spaces. We also accompany this work with ethical documentation of lived experiences, which are translated into advocacy briefs to inform protection mechanisms, programming, and policy engagement.

In Machinga District, we followed the journey of survivors of childhood sexual violence through the formal systems meant to protect them. Every step of this journey carries a promise: to notice violence, to protect, to act, and to deliver justice.

But as the journey unfolds, the simplicity of these promises begins to shift, raising deeper questions about how protection really works.

Are protection systems, as currently designed, equipped to prevent harm in the conditions in which children actually live? What happens when care is expected from families and communities already carrying more than they can hold? And how do power and gender shape which experiences are seen, spoken, and acted upon across every level of the system?

The Promise Path invites us to sit with these questions and reflect on how protection is designed, experienced, and understood—and what that means for the lives of children.
