Chipembere Community Development Organization (CCDO) has intensified efforts to improve youth access to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) services in Thyolo District.
The organisation says low awareness, cultural barriers and risky s*xual behaviour remain major challenges among adolescents.
Over the weekend, CCDO held an SRHR awareness campaign at Mbeluko Village in T/A Nchiramwera, using sports, music and drama to engage young people.
CCDO Executive Director Dalitso Chiwayula said many youths lack knowledge of policies that protect their rights.
“Many adolescents in Thyolo struggle to exercise their s*xual and reproductive rights because they are not fully aware of the policies that protect them. This campaign aims to empower them to make informed choices and demand responsive services,” he said.
Village Headman Mbeluko called for open dialogue to break silence and harmful cultural norms that limit access to SRHR services.
During the event, Bvumbwe Health Centre provided services to 48 youths aged between 17 and 36, including condoms and emergency contraceptive pills.
The campaign is part of the Amplifying Adolescents and Young People’s Voices on SRHR project, funded by Hivos through the Regional SRHR Fund with support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
The project is being implemented in T/A Bvumbwe, Nchiramwera, Chimaliro and Maggie.
