Strengthening Patient Safety and Medical Accountability in Malawi

On 30 July 2026, the Malawi Law Society, in partnership with the Medical Association of Malawi, the Medical Council of Malawi, and the Nyale Institute for Sexual and Reproductive Governance, is convening a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) workshop on Medical Errors, Patient Safety and Legal Liability in Malawi.

The workshop brings together legal and medical professionals to discuss how Malawi can strengthen patient safety while ensuring health professionals are supported to provide life-saving care without unnecessary fear of litigation.

As a co-convener, the Nyale Institute remains committed to promoting evidence-based, rights-centred governance that protects both patients and healthcare professionals.

Together, we can build a more accountable, responsive, and trusted healthcare system.

Community Outreach with Senior Chief Chikumbu

Nyale Institute, under the Mwana Wanzako Ngwako Yemwe Campaign, conducted a community outreach meeting led by Senior Chief Chikumbu, the Girls' Reproductive Justice Ambassador, in Mulanje District.

The meeting brought together traditional leaders to discuss the importance of supporting girls' rights and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) within their communities. Through open dialogue, the chiefs strengthened their understanding of girls' reproductive justice and committed to promoting positive community norms that protect and empower adolescent girls and young women.

By engaging traditional leaders, we continue to build community ownership and create safer, more supportive environments where girls can thrive and access accurate information and services.

The programme will also engage traditional leaders, led by Senior Chief Chikumbu, to strengthen support for girls’ reproductive justice.

Together, we’re building communities where young people are informed, empowered, and heard.
